A kickass fuse
A friend and me have come up with an kickass fuse thats reliable, slow burning and most important SAFE. Heres how it goes:
You will need: Salpeter sugar a thin length of rope (dont actually call it "rope", but i couldnt come up with the correct word).
Melt the salpeter and sugar in equal amounts so it becomes liquid, and then dip the "rope" in to the mixture and make sure u spread it evenly over the "rope" and then let it dry.
Hey, what do u think pretty impressive ey.

Re: A kickass fuse
I tried that a while ago, I didn't really like it because the burn rate varied alot depending on the batch of KNO3/sugar mix, and also, sometimes it was kinda hard to light

Re: A kickass fuse
Well I use a nice porus cotton string for my improvised fuse. Then I can make black match by adding 1 part dextrin, 15 parts BP, 15 parts water to a container and dipping the string in the mix. Or I can make KNO3+ascorbic acid fuse by dissolving equal amounts of KNO3 and ascorbic acid (vitamin c for those of you who didn't know) in water and soaking the fuse for a few seconds, then drying it. Or there are at least 3 others I can do but don't feel like typing today...

Re: A kickass fuse
I just make black match in large ammounts and I find it a hell of alot better than kno3 and sugar. All of the batch i made last night ignited at 1.00p.m today in my room for no reason at all and burnt quite a bit of my carpet. Can someone tell me why it happened, it wasn't in sunlight, it was raining, my strike anywhere matches were no were near....

Re: A kickass fuse
Two pieces of thread, side by side, slightly separated, both coated in composition would work.

Re: A kickass fuse
different types of string saok different amounts of material. I am not sure which burns faster, the more powder or the less powder, but out of the ones said so far, i think that yard would soak the most material. I think that the more the powder in a fuse, the faster it burns, so the thinner string would work better, but i would go with yarn becuase it is more like visco, and there are many different colors, (like green), so it would look more like visco fuse.

A bit off topic, when will UN be shipping to other countries? I'm talking about chemicals, not glassware.

Re: A kickass fuse
i am not sure. All i heard is that they are working on it, and will try to start selling soon. In case anyone doesnt know yet, the DO sell tubes, glassware, scales, and other things. They cant sell fuse or chemicals thought, and that kind of sucks for other people.

YEAH! I finally got a digital camera. A 3.3 megapixel one for $150, so I've been playing with it all day. Anyway, that's off topic but deal with it.

Re: A kickass fuse
For some things (chemicals, mostly) they are more expensive than other suppliers. For other items their prices aren't as bad. I haven't seen anyone sell UV LEDs for that cheap, for example (or prebuilt regular LED devices, for that matter).
