today i took a tablespoon of potassium permanganate,put it in a metal bowl. then took some 99 percent pure glycerin and put it in a eye droper.put a couple of drops of it on the p. permanganate and did nothing at all!!! what the hell did i do wrong?

it only lite on fire after i exposed a burning match to it.

Did you remeber having to put hsso4 on it?

What are you talking about GW? I did the same thing just a couple days ago and it worked fine...

How long did you wait? The time it takes can be very different depending on temp and how fine your KMnO4 crystals are. I had to wait maybe 15 sec before mine started once the glycerine was dripped on.

Glycerin is very thick, and dosent mix very well with things, it usually beads off of the kmno4 and not soak in due to how thick it is.

The solution?

Make a small pile of kmno4 and poke the top of it forming a volcano like pile. Pour the glycerin in the depression and wait. Since the blob of glycerin is contained in the pile, it will eventually react.

I was talking about that video Rat had, he droped a couple drops of h2so4 on a pile of k permanginate and glycerine.

Actually that one was just Kmno4 and glycerin.

The other one was KCLO3 and H2SO4.

I gotta re-encode those movies because they got all fucked up.

The ambient temperature will affect the speed...if it's cold it'll take longer, if it's hot it'll happen faster.

If it's too cold out, just do it later. It's really not all that exciting anyway.
