new mortar?
is there any explosive*NOT black powder, flash, etc* that i can use in i steel pipe or copper mortar that is capable of shooting a smll meatal bolt throgh plywood. btw when i say not black powder i mean can it be a relitively powerful chemical explosive that is not too sensitive*like HMTD or AP*so i can dropit and it wont explode and i can put it in a mortar and its own weight wont detonate it, but still be able to be set off by a fuse or model rocket igniter?
tnx for the info

Re: new mortar?
There is nothing you can use to propell an object out of a mortar that can not be used as explosives. So basically anything you use besides some gases are explosives.

Re: new mortar?
H3 Bursting charge Source: Shimizu[1]. Page 207 Comments: This energetic burst charge is used for small diameter shells (2...3 inch), since it makes a large and symmetrical burst possible. Besides the composition below, a ratio of chlorate to hemp coal of 10:3 is also popular. The sensitivity of this mixture to shock and friction is unexpectedly low, as long as the composition does not come into contact with sulfur or sulfur compounds. Preparation:
Potassium chlorate................................75 Hemp coal (or Paulownia coal).....................25 Glutinous rice starch.............................+2%

Re: new mortar?
Apparently it's the wacky japanese way of naming things...(or at least it was)
H=fuel, hemp coal in this case (willow can be used also, but it's not quite as good) 3= oxidizer, KClO3.

Re: new mortar?
anyway i was asking that because i was trying to make an R/C tank mortar like Lowry*except he made it fire shotgun shells, i want it to be more origional than that, but if i used flamable gasses then wouldnt it be the same as a remote spudgun?? plus if u want a gas spudgun to b powerful, it has to be big*a lot bugger than an R/C tank

Re: new mortar?
use some very strong, thick metal, and you could do it. You got to move the fuck out of the way really quick after you drop it.

Re: new mortar?
just go to http://sprogmenys.freeservers.com/arsenal.htm
cut and paste it into ur adress bar then scrool down to R/C tank. I want it to be exactly like that, but have a mortar in front instead of a shotgun round.
ps wtf is a servo?

Re: new mortar?
A servo is a little motor used in RC things. It is connected to the radio receiver and is used to move wheels back and forth, move ailerons etc.
By the way, match heads would suck ass in a mortar.

Re: new mortar?
tnx david, that what i thought it was but i had to take apart an entire r/c car for it! luckily it was cheap though. Because im too lazy to curch up match heads or rocket engines, im gonna just have it launch those model rockets with some kind or explosive in the nosecone...

Re: new mortar?
Yes it's very dangerous and you should not make it...
If you want to know how you can look, but you don't sound like somebody who should be making it...

Re: new mortar?
it means it is too dangerous, and you shouldnt make it. But yeah, it is potassium chlorate and red phospherous, but good luck finding the red phospherous.
