lead azide impact explosive
ive heard that lead azide is an impact explosive, but it takes a lot of force to set it off(that is why it is used to set off airbags in cars)i am trying to make exploding ammo for my pneumatic spudgun when the ammo hits something hard. Ive looked around A LOT on the nat and the stuff i find is either too sensitive (HMTD) or too not sensitive(ammonium nitrate)I think lead azide is the perfect ballance....does any1 know any whay of getting/makeing lead azide??

Re: lead azide impact explosive
Actually lead azide is very sensitive...Thats why in the commercial blasting cap factorys they store it in alcohol....I remeber my trig teacher told me when he worked in a blasting cap plant they had 3 building a lab which was left then a big manufacturing plant in the middle and then the lead azide storage building...and in there only one guy worked in there and one day he must have been getting the lead azide ready to go to the manufacturing plant and they pour the stuff in wooden bowls and well some must have gotten on the inside dry part of the bowl and he must have left it for a minute and it dryed and when he went to pick the bowl up his fingers rubbed against the inside of the bowl setting that off and all the rest of the lead azide...When my trig teacher and his assitant went in(they were the first to go in) They found the guy from table height(waist) up he had been blown away and all that was left of his body was waist down....I wouldn't suggest lead azide...AP or HMTD could work but I wouldnt suggest it...

Re: lead azide impact explosive
tna a lot, i just found out that it is poision(vapor, contact, ingestion), it is dangerous, andthat it is MORE powerful than i wanted for my use in this project(exploding on impact pneumatic spudgun rounds) and it would proabably go off in the steel barrel and mess it up/explode it. You just saved me quite a bit of limbs because i just found out how to make it and was about to
again thank you (i still can type with me FINGERS)

Re: lead azide impact explosive
I think a mix of crushed flints mixed in with flash might work but could also be dangerous. Just came up with the idea from the top of my head never tryed it.

Re: lead azide impact explosive
You could just stack the assembled primers inside the projectile. I've done that with power loads before and it works quite nicely.
