humm well you could but a little more detail could be provided in this illegal act first off once you have removed the paper from a rocket engine there are a couple of sections starting from the bottom up is the nozzle the propellent the smoke stage the ejection and the clay plug just remove both clay sectioins (nozzel and plug) then take your stick of compressed powder and stick it in a zip-lock and smack it with a hammer a couple of times to break it up then hit it lighter and more aqurately to break up the peaces your goal is to make a fine powder next if possible you could mill it i would suggest useing an old rocktumbler and a few lead weights if you dont have any just keep bashing it till you get a nice fine powder then use these powders in such things as crater makers (cobs) pipe bombs and and other basic salute tpe thing and just play around hell stick a bit in a film container stick a fuse in the side cap it and tape it up light and stand back a bit you can use the pyrodex in making some simple nap charges or make a gas fireball .. a coffee creamer fireball works two .. there is lots you can do but depends on the amount of pyrodex you have is your C a C-11 or a C-6 ? and A's contain very little powder but it is still usable

Re: Model rocket engines
The black powder that was in the rocket engines is ... well ... black powder. It's also known as gunpowder. It is probably the most widely-used composition in pyrotechnics. For you, I suggest looking into cratermakers or maybe lampares. Cratermakers are empty CO2 cartriges filled with black powder and fused. I have a page on lampares Here. edit: link will only be avalible for a couple days

Re: Model rocket engines
I have got some really loud salutes with black powder, so you can use a heavyweight cardboard tube, it is usually about as loud as a metal ones, and are prefered becuase there is no shrapnel.

im betting 3/4's of my life on the fact that it is PYRODEX but i will infact send estes an e-mail requesting the information and if i ever receive an e-mail back i will post the results and prove that it is infact PYRODEX then i will wave it front of your face like the imature person i am

Re: Model rocket engines
there's a difference between pyrodex and true black powder. Some types of Pyrodex are technically smokeless versions of black powder so your shot isn't obscured when hunting. Some rip offs don't contain sulfur. I don't know if Pyrodex does or not. It seems to work just as well in mortars though, i'm not sure about bottle rockets. P.S.- How do you make crater makers, how powerful are they, and are there non-shrapnel alternatives?

well, there are 2 gray stuffs, the one on both ends is the clay, the other darker gray powder is the smoke, its really just a timer between the main stage and the charge that releses the chut. its the shit that gives it the sulfer smell. (doesnt really brake down in water to well ;) i know how the shit works guys, i just never had the chance (or motivation) to go blow some thing up. sugestions about braking down the powder in water? i had done it w/ an A about a week ago and it seemd fine. it was a c6 btw.

Re: Model rocket engines
You do that, warweed. Meanwhile, I'll be content with the old MSDS that says you are wrong.
