Yeah SP is much difernt, if it was is=n an estes rocket it would shoot out a brith yellow/orange flame. Also SP comes in small circels not a powder. I nearly burn myself the first time i light some SP i thought it would just puff like bp but it shoot up a 4 foot flame from about 1/4 teaspoon of powder.

1/4 teaspoon is very little for 4 feet high.

Sp burns a lot slower than bp. I always confused pyrodex and smokeless most all the time.

I've said it once and I'll say it again just to make sure you all have heard it: All Estes/Quest rocket engines contain BP. No rocket motors that I know of contain Pyrodex. As 6C said, black powder is gun powder, and neither are the same as Pyrodex or smokeless powder. As it relates to the topic of this post, any of the above substances will work in a combustion-based pressure explosion (like the "Soca bottle bombs" described by zero.)

Regardless, your information is correct. Black powder and pyrodex perform very similarly, while smokeless powder is generally unsuitable for salutes.

Smokeless powder, however, can be detonated as a high explosive with a blasting cap. It is, in fact, the most powerful and most readily available commercial high explosive to the civilian market. It requires no permit and in many places not even so much as an ID check to buy.

hey when you take apart a fire cracker only take the silver/get powder(flash Powder)dont mix it with any of the other stuff because some have saw dust on the bottom and it fucked up my flash powder once and didnt even light

hey just to let you know cutting and grinding match heads is not very fun you might as well just keep the fire crackers if you just want a loud noise.

You do not have to crush up the powder, but it works a lot better. Also, only use the white tipped ones. If in a good case, it will make a good firecracker.

if you use grey fuses the kind on your fireworks it might burn out to fast befor it touches the matches and sometimes grey fuses go out for no reason there not very reliable

these are the things i could probably get, bottlerockets, f. crakers, sparklers, and some other stuff like that

You got 5 dollars? You can get about 50 grams of black powder for 5 dollars, they are in the model rocket engines, if you are desperate. You can get a weak black powder from bottle rockets, and a weak flash powder from the sparklers, but it must be in a very fine powder.
You can use a empty rocket engine case for a tube, or roll your own thick tube out of kraft paper. You can make really good plugs from dowels or epoxy. Everything is at walmart except for fuse. You can order fuse from cannonfuse.com, but it will not get to you until next week. I would just use the sparklers as a fuse.

nicks right the sparklers would be a great fuse theres a way to make them in the ka fucking boom section i did it and they work well and you can controll how fast you want them to go with some testing.

And you can waterproof them by wrapping 1 or 2 layers of tape or sarans wrap.

i never tried that but its a good idea

oh yeah homer if you cant get kraft paper you can use paper towel rolls but i dont know if they would work as good.
