pyrotechnician
I have a few questions about being a pyrotechnician. Would you need to go to college for this job? How good is the pay and, how hard would it be getting the job somewhere?

Re: pyrotechnician
You can attend one of the many special Pyrotechinal schools in new mexico...And start up your own little bussinuse with some friends, only one person needs to have a license because you can get your friends to carry stuff and shit...But you can do that and work on small projects...or you can try to hook up with a big company and do large scale shite....But I am thinking of attening this place in connecticut that teaches people to be technicians of High explosives...and from there you can take many jobs...cival enginere or a chemist(will take more school time) to even a explosive manufacturer....

There are "many special Pyrotechinal schools in new mexico"? I have lived here in NM forever and no one told me anything about pyro schools. Maybe I'll go check the phone book... (5 minutes later) Nope. :/

Re: pyrotechnician
The word "pyro" comes from the Latin word "puro". It means "fire".
There are a number of different jobs related to pyrotechnics. Outdoor shows are the big one. There are also movie special effects and indoor pyrotechnics (think rock concerts and such).
You would ideally have a Phd in chemistry, but it's not required. Your best bet would probably be knowing somebody already in the biz. Unless you are at the top of the company, the pay is low and seasonal...
There is a lot of info in the rec.pyrotechnics archive on this subject...

After explosives & blasting school, I will be making over $10 an hour. We have people come & test us. This is what I came up with & soon want to do.

Re: pyrotechnician
The Greek 'pyr' is more closely related.
And according to Webster, 'pyrotechnician' should actually be 'pyrotechnist'...
peace out. sph3ric pyramid.

Re: pyrotechnician
Greek and Latin are related I guess...the point is that the word, or some form of it, has been around for a long time.
