Battery Bomb: does it work?
Me and a couple of friends of mine have recently learned of your site and its vast array of pyrotechnic sources.
This may come off newbish, but please help me...
I am interested in making the battery bomb in your Bad Ideas > Ka-Fucking-Boom section. I just want to know if any of you have tried it and if it works.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Battery Bomb: does it work?
Dont really follow to closely what the archives here say...Because most of that shit isnt true...some is however....But definitly not all...But I have heard of the 'Battery bomb' actually working...But I wouldn't waste my time on something stupid like that....
Oh yeah and welcome....

Re: Battery Bomb: does it work?
It does work. They have some false information in there though. You are not supposed to actually use batteries, but what they are talking about is a big block of whistlers without the sticks. When you light the fuse, all the whistlers scream un and explode. If you empty the powder from the batteries, you can make a powerful firecracker.

not all batterys (as in the ones you use in a toy) contain magnesium oxide and yes it does react with hydrogen peroxide but i don't think it would be worth going out and buying batterys to try this ... if you want a good one and i have just rescently been playing with these is you go and buy hydrochloric acid and put some in a bottle and some Al foil balls shake it up set it down and walk away .... it works amazingly well

Re: Battery Bomb: does it work?
Some dry cell batteries have zinc powder in them, do they not?
I know for a fact the old hook-two-nine-volts-together is bogus. All they do is get slightly warm.

Re: Battery Bomb: does it work?
If you can't get hydrochloric acid (say, from pyrotek), you could just do a nice dry-ice pressure "bomb"

Re: Battery Bomb: does it work?
What? A battery is a big square box that is filled with whistling bottle rockets with out stick, and when you set it off, the whistlers go up and explode. The whistling powder is good for salutes.

NickSG: We're talking about electrical batteries, not missile batteries.
I do know that spent alkaline batteries thrown into a campfire will go pop. I also know that one can extract not one but six AAAA sized cells from one traditional nine volt battery, should you happen to own a piece of electronic gear that requires them.

Re: Battery Bomb: does it work?
How can you make a bomb out of a battery? The only thing you can do is heat the magnesium oxide, and then the zinc burns, and bursts that casing. That is stupid.

Re: Battery Bomb: does it work?
the magnessium oxide and the hydrogen peroxide react with one another and make soem gas making the case that it is in burst if you have enough you mix it with the h2o2 in a bottle and cap it if your lucky it may burst but hell i say just get hydrochloric acid i just picked some up today from canadian tire for 4 bucks a gallon i got 2 gallons me and my friends set off 7 pressure bombs in a local feild and trail and the cops came out we walked right by two cops and a cop dog and to lighten the situation i was like cool what kind of dog is that and they told me and im like sweet then im like so what are you doing and there like there was reported gun shots in the area im like shit thats what that was we heard somthing like 5 min ago that sounded like one and then im like well i ain't hanging around here much longer so we walked away lol as my friend had abg full of plastic bottles and another friend had a plastic white bottle poking out of his coat and was fillied with acid lol it was so funny then as soon as we were out of sight we ran like a mother fucker because they were only about 5 min form were we blew our last one so we did not want that damn dog finding it and pick up our sent so we fucken booted it and we ran through as many obsticals and things we could think of and we drop like little chunks of sausage lol ... we hope the pigs would think were trying to through em off so they might screw up and not know what way we went lol then we saw another dog and a single cop and we repeated step one lol it was so funny because both were asked the same question and gave the same reaction lol and now they are searching around our hood lol it is great and funny shit i can't wait to here it in the papers tomorrow and then go throgh a few down near the printing place lol it will be great fun pissing the pigs off i love my life haha we through a whole shit load them the day before around a hill a pre-school a junior high and our highs school all within about 4000 feet of each other lol its great fun tomorrow we plan on seeing if my friend can evacuate the school by placing one in a trah can by our table and walking away and sitting down and waiting lol it will be all good they take like 1 min and 20 seconds on average so plenty of time

Re: Battery Bomb: does it work?
There was a post on that (exploding batteries) somewhere at E&W, and the conclusion was that it was bullshit; not at all practical for amateurs.
peace out. sph3ric pyramid.

Oh, I though it was made by poking a hole in a battery and sticking in a fuse.

Re: Battery Bomb: does it work?
The recipe for the battery bomb does not sound feasible. And Even if it did work, from the base size of it and the materials prescribed, It would not be powerful enough. Even modifications to this weapon to increase its power did not work any wonder, though with its modifications, I did manage to blow up a glass vase. The one thing this is probably good for, Is to get about 20 batteries and use it as a water-based weapon.
The theory presented is :
"X" batteries multiplied by their voltage. If your number equals anymore than 80, your device has a tendancy for creating heart attacks and strokes.
20 AA's times 1.5 volts is 30, and thirty is your voltage. Throw it into a body of water. Best if this "pool shocker" device is constructed with AAA batteries, to simplify concealment.
To make it, Just strap two batteries together. Then strap more onto the first two. Strap them together until you exhaust your supply of batteries. Throw it in water and see what happens. DO NOT throw it into water where humans are swimming, diving or otherwise. Especially if YOU are standing in it!
This works only with live bateries. I threw one in my dog's water dish, and it made a pop. I tried it again, without it making any noise. Regardless, I got a nice Jolt.
PS: Preps suck!!! (preps are the popular folk) Have a nice day...

That won't work in any vaugely human-sized body of water. For starters, electricity follows the path of the least resistance. If the water does complete the circuit the power would simply skirt the edges of the cells from the negative to positive end, and would never electrify the water. Even before this happens, however, it should be noted that fresh water with no salt is actually a rather poor conductor. It takes many thousands of volts and/or a good amperage behind it to get electricity though any useful amount of fresh water, and you aren't goting to get either of those from a bundle of AA batteries. ~Zero

lol i was just going to say that but i agree with Zero it will not work what so ever hell just throw a stero in there but even that might not work probaly just blow the fuse or pop the breaker

Re: Battery Bomb: does it work?
It only takes one amp to kill a person with straight-through zero resistance. You need lots of voltage to push those amps through human skin, even if it's wet.
American households have two (?) phase 120 volt power, usually topping out around 100 amps. Most circut breakers and fuse boxes in residential settings are set at 75, 65, or even 50 amps. This will be your limiting factor. Even if you bypass the breaker you will likely set the wiring on fire with a full force no-load setup like this.
There are usually three (?) phase 240 volt outlets in at least once place in the house for plugging in laundry machines, electric furnaces, and refidgerators. I know not what sort of amperage is behind these.

Re: Battery Bomb: does it work?
Hay Hay,
I have just tried it with a normal dry cell AA battery. I cut the battery open, found some random paper, a metal stick-like thingy and allot of blue putty. I looked it up on the web and found this http://othello.mech.nwu.edu/ea3/book99/elec1/images/inside_battery.html . So according to this and what I tried the battery bomb is balls
have fun Scazz
