One of the perks of being a moderator is that I can post stupid things and everyone will take me seriously.

I was recently introduced to this little plaything by a friend of mine. Find a wide necked glass jar (we used a pickle jar) and fill it with gasoline. Take a stroll down to your local dollar store and get a five pack of disposable cigarette lighters. Drop all five lighers into the gas jar, light the surface of the gasoline, and step back.

The gasoline will eat through the plastic on the lighters, eventually getting one or more of them to vent. Gasoline and butane spews, and a fireball is formed - Sometimes multiple fireballs.

And if you did it like we did, a driveway is set on fire... But that's not the point.

Useless, but what do you expect for a buck?

I did that a few times, but instead of gasoline, we used alcohol. By the time the lighters were in the alcohol and the alcohol was on fire, we remembered that it did not eat through the plastic. All we got were a few pops and small, short 1 foot fireballs. I might try it with gasoline.

I remember doing basically the same thing in Boy Scouts...we just tossed em in the campfire. One time we put one on some of the wood in the fireplace, but not actually in the fire. It heated up and got pressurized until it exploding, making a much bigger bang than if they melt, scattered the logs a bit and hit a kit with a metal part of the lighter...it was pretty funny. The kid didn't get hurt or anything, it wasn't going very fast when it hit him.

It makes a loud pop, louder than it without light gas, and it makes an impressive fireball. I wouldnt reccemend any other flammable material other than gas, becuase most other stuff goes out when you throw it.

Very dangerous though, most lighters in UK explode when they get to a temperture of 50Degres though so i suppose it gives one abit of safe time.

You can just set it on the ground after it is lit, and run. It will take longer than you think, usually about 15 seconds to a minute.

What I like to do with displosable lighters is take everything off (flint wheel, wind guard, etc.) and pry up on the gas valve thing until a bit of gas leaks out on its own. You light it, step back, and in about a minute, the flame will melt the plastic and go into the butane container, doing 1 of 3 things:

Spew 2 big 4 inch flames until there is no butane left.

Blast a huge 5 foot mushroom cloud fireball into the air.

Explode into a big blue globe of fire about 3 feet in diameter.

fun stuff.

Butane is very very flammable, and evaporates really quickly. I remember one time I made a hole in a lighter, and I poured some gas into a empty powderade bottle and I light it in fire. The my friend knocked on the door, so I didnt want to leave it burning unwatched so I blew it out. WHHOOSSSHHH! It made a fireball way bigger and scared the shit out of me. It burned out a couple of seconds later. I answered the door and said" hey james, come blow this fire out" I was only like 14, an I was really stupid then.

has anyone here ever held a lighter into a kinda open fist filled it up with gas and lit it? Its pretty cool. if u squeese ur hand the flame will stay up and even long enough to light a ciggy. If u get a friend to do it with 2 hands when u open them u can make a fire ball.

There should be no difference. If you take an aim'n'flame apart you will find it is nothing but a regular lighter built into a stick.

If you read my post right, viper, I think you would get it. The flame melts the case which lets out all the butane onto an already burning surface, causing a good sized fireball shaped like a mushroom cloud.

I havent tryed wut u said yet by one question bugs me... how can u only set the top of the jar on fire?
wont it all burn instantly?

kingenrage: do you have a can of gas in your garage right now? if so go and pour a small puddle of gas and light it it does not all go instantly but i would imagane that the jar gass would burn a a decent rate anyways but not instantly

Why would you think that gas would burn instantly? Gasoline burns really slowly. Also, do you know what would happen if you filled a bottle all the way up with gasoline and screwed on the top, stuck in a fuse and lit it. Nothing.

It's not supposed to burn instantly. When the lighters vent and atomize some of the gasoline it burns just peachy, though.
