I guess it should put this on the site, Do this outside first off, heat some water in the mic untill it boils, then dump in as much saltpeter as it will alow to disolve, mix well, let this sit for about 30 min. Now pour through a filter about 3 times, now you can either boil it down or put it in a shallow wide pan and wait....and wait and then wait somemore it take several days. so i like to boil it down.

That would only work if the KNO3 were the only water soluble material in your fertilizer - Possible, but not always the case.

If you can find pure KNO3 fertilizer (like mine) you can do a straight substitution.

Epsom salt is magnesium sulfate, not potassium nitrate. There's a world or two of difference, there.

Yeah they use it in fertiliser, but u should also be able to buy it in bulk straight (from gardening/agricultural stores) and save urself the hastle of trying to purefy it.

In Oz i can buy a 25kg bag of pure KNO3 from an agricultural store for A$30. needless to say i have had it for 2 years and still have plenty left.

trying to buy it through the chemist is very expensive for a small amount.

we can also buy powdered sulfer from the same ag store (as it is used in dusting grapes for insects & such).

have good prices on KNO3 if you happen to have a credit card... if you can't obtain it from the above suppliers, try your best to get it in pure form from local stores. If you have to purify fertilizer, dissolve it in water (maybe in a blender...) and filter the water. Throw out the stuff in the filter and the filters and dry out the water and you're left with KNO3. (and maybe other things that are water soluble)
