Got me a workshop.
Right, first off i apoligise for being a newbie to this type of shit, my forte would be drugs but im trying to venture out. I've got a mate who works repairing electric motors of all sizes, from lawn mower motors right up to room size Power station motors. Theirs only three guys who work their, him (a right drugged up nutter) this other guy (another drugged up nutter) and the boss. The boss aint never their so they've got the workshop to themselves. I took my car round their so i could do some welding, and this guy has a 1 foot pole welded shut one end (with a small hole drilled on the side) and a large ball bearing in the other end, he passes me some ear protecters, fills the pipe with Oxygen and acetylene then holds a fucking lighter to the small drilled hole... FUCK ME! i was deaf for the rest of the day, and a rather large hole had appeared in the side of the filling cabinet it was pointed at. While i was there i deceided i wanted some knuckle dusters, so i made some rather tasty dusters out of some pipe laying about. Anyway, it's got me thinking, what wonderous creations could come out of the workshop, feel free to flame as its a rather broad open ended question, but any sugestions? Im sure il come up with a few things my self, but like i said its not really my area, and im not about to make it a hobby at the moment, im just looking to make some interesting things. Oh and if anyones interested in any industrial electric motors any size i can get them half price.
If your wondering whats in the workshop, i saw grinders, electric welder, Oxyacetylene, a forklift, cranes, drills, sanders, winding machines, paint sprayers and an air compressing unit, a lathe(sp?), all kinds of nuts/bolts/saws/hammers/screw drivers/malets/sockets/alan keys/chizels/cables/wires/soldering irons etc... and probably alot of other shit i didn't see i wasnt really taking notes.
Much obliged, Take it easy.

Re: Got me a workshop.
My workshop is pretty damn equipped, but messy as hell.
I got a jigsaw, belt sander, 20yr old electric drill that still works great, hand drill, dremel with flexible cable extention and foot petel reostat, 2 regular reostats, fan, tons of screwdrivers & bits, about 10 different types of tweezers, glue gun, tape gun, 5 exacto knives, clamps, tons of tape, glues, epoxys & putties, ect.
Pretty much everything you could think of.

Re: Got me a workshop.
I do not have a actual workshop. I just have a small table with some tape, while glue and a glue gun, a cheap drill. I am not that much into pyrotechnics, so I do not spend all my money on that stuff when i am saving up for 22s(chrome rims). I only make a firework about one a week.

Re: Got me a workshop.
Make a pneumatic steel potato cannon. or a oxygen propane cannon out of steel. I'm going to make one as soon as my current project is out of my shop.
HeHe, my new shop has (just to brag): Every wrench and mechanical tool one could ever need for auto mechanics. torque wrench, pressure gauges for fuel, air etc. An engine crane, grinders, hacksaws, a big ass arc welder, several hand drills, a drill press, glass drills, epoxy, glues, paints a battery charger/electroplating powersource, a mini electrocleaning tank(hot tank). A zillion chainsaws in every state of repair. Plus a fully equiped chem lab, with tonnes of reagents, all the glass one could ever need, a highvac pump, fume hood(home made) and an aspirator. And this is all in my basement. Oh I'm not more than 21 or wealthy either.
My next project will be a furnace for casting iron/brass/aluminum and doing high temp reactions... phosphorus anyone?
Oh and I really want to make/buy a lathe.

Re: Got me a workshop.
Tell us down here in BB how the P goes. I was thinking of making some (not for drugs!) using some stell tube and a charcoal furnace (hole in the ground with a fan blowing on it). Maybe Na from NaCl?

Re: Got me a workshop.
If you want sodium, just melt sodium chloride and sent an electric current through it. Be extremly careful doing this, becuase it releases the toxic gas chlorine.

Re: Got me a workshop.
Well actually it's my shop and gear, but it's in the basement of my girlfriends house. Soon it'll be our house, but whatever. I can't wait until my engine rebuild is out of the shop then I can start doing some fun shit.
The P is made by mixing charcoal sand and phosphate rock (or bone ash) then placing in a very hot furnace in a sealed steel pot. A steel pipe from the top of the pot runs to the side and into a bucket of water. When the phosphorus reduces it vaporizes and condenses under water as a white waxy material. This is collected and kept cool and under water, this is highly toxic white phosphorus, it will ignite in air if taken above 30 degrees C. To turn it into Redp you heat it in the absence of air at 300 C for a few hours. I'm guessing that instead of putting it under an inert gas one could heat it in an enclosed pressure bomb under a little H2O so that the air is driven off by steam, when the steam slows down a tap is shut and the heating continues. Hopefully the H2O gas is sufficient for excluding most of the oxygen.
This is all theorhetical especially the last bit. No one i know has succesfully done this but it is (mostly)the process used in industry.
