ok im trying to convince my dad to let me run an ftp from our box i wanna know how much traffic it would get so warweed you better post from your experiances and all others what would you like to see in a ftp im thinking mainly movies but i could host anything and would you want an ftp ok yeah bye night night GO AWAY!
well i had about 120 users but only about 15 really used there accounts and the traffic i got was about maybe 150 log ons a day
as for uploads my server had 1.5 gig's of totse user files depending on the day i usally got about 40 uploads a day and on a slower day about 10 and as for downloads i got tons of downloads a day but if you plan on running an ftp serv on your box what connection do you have and also what are the stats on your comp
i was running my server off and external drive that was 20 gig's as soon a i get my other box and switch im going to restart my server but as for you starting one try and free up about 10 gig's of space and you have to keep the comp on 24/7 because i know the one down fall on my server was it was not 24/7 as for the prog use serv-u ftp server if you wish i could set it up but if you do this what you do is you make a folder for saved and then each user you make them a personal folder were they have all access and the saved folder they only have read access so that way each time some one adds somthign and you like it you move it to the saved bin and cancel it in there folder and then leave a note in a notepad document that it has been saved to the main folder
if you want if you do decide to run it i can upload all the main stuff that was on my server to yours but it may take a while because it is about 500 megs (the main shit photos and movies and documents all the stuff pre-aproved and no fake shit like the anarchist cookbook)
if you can try and find a better server program one that you can set up through the web and make it so it auto signs people up for an account or somthing like that because the main pain was getting e-mails and then addint the accounts and groups
