What size should it be, i got a 3/4 by 6, and the rocket engienes, i find are the easiest to get my hands on, but whats the easiest way to crush them into powder.

Oh, leave him alone.

For a small one I'd use some 1 inch pipe, probably about three inches long. If you're crimping it you'll have to give yourself about an inch and a half of extra length on each end, mind you.

Crimp both ends first, drill a fuse hole second, and fill it with powder through the fuse hole third. Never drill or hammer anything with explosive in it.

I find the best way to grind rocket engines is to cut the cardboard off of them, put the cores in a grocery bag, and beat the holy hell out of 'em with a hammer. Rocket engines are made from pyrodex, and it is quite shock insensitive. Try as I might, I have not been able to make the stuff go off by hitting it with a hammer.

If you want to try another method of crushing look on my site (in my profile). The problems with Zero's method are the powder getting in all the folds, and the bag maybe ripping. If you can get it right, it's probably a lot faster however. I don't crush engines anymore, so I haven't tried it.

Last time I checked, Estes type rocket engines were not made of pyrodex, they were (and still are, mind you) made of black powder. Still, either BP or Pyrodex should work in a pipe bomb. Try not to kill anyone with it.

If you want Pyrodex, go look online. They sell it in bulk for muzzleloaders, and some sites just add in a disclaimer of responsibility; no ID check. It's also a hell of a lot cheaper than crushing up rocket engines.
