Exploding ammo
Ive made the Co2 Mortar, The one that you use a 12 gram Co2 Catridge and it hits a Thumb tack. I was wondering if anyone knew how i could make the Co2 catridge Explode on impact?

Re: Exploding ammo
You simply have to put something that is impact (shock) sensitive on the end opposite the neck where it is fired from. According to someone I know, oxalic acid and KMnO4 (pottasium permanagate) is very friction sensitive, and I'm guessing shock sensitive too. Oxalic acid is used for wood bleaching (I think) and KMnO4 is septic tank cleaner, and a powerful oxidizer.

Re: Exploding ammo
One of these days I'm going to find someplace that sells potassium permanganate as septic tank cleaner.
I much prefer using cratermaker mortars. The concept is simple enough - A piece of very durable metal pipe is capped at one end and loaded with a teaspoon or so of black powder. Preferably this pipe will fit a cratermaker nicely. The cratermaker is then lit and dropped into the pipe, fuse end fist. Get your fingers out of the way.
The burning fuse on the cratermaker will ignite the black powder in the pipe, sending the thing rocketing out like a bat out of hell.
Rarely does the cratermaker even reach the ground before it explodes, but it's still fun.

Re: Exploding ammo
Or you could have some kind of fuse hole at the side of the mortar and cut the crater maker fuse reveiling the blackness...

Re: Exploding ammo
or better yet fish the cratermaker's fuse out the hole in the side so it travels through the bp on the way to the cratermaker
you'd be able to pre pack them...
but stay the fuck away from that side hole when that goes off...

Re: Exploding ammo
either that or just use it as a rocket launcher rather than a morter (they are basically the same but who cares).
all you would have to do to avoid that exhaust hole is face it away from you, ideally the ground.
the all you would have to do is piont it at your desired target light the fuse and hope it doesn't get stuck in the pipe.

Re: Exploding ammo
if you go to a gun shop you can buy primers glue one to the top and on impact cause the primer makes a big enugh exploshen that will blow apart and inigt the left over co2 very simple

Re: Exploding ammo
Simple if you spell it out well my idea is this and keep in mind that i havent read any other posts so if im being redundent please exuse me drill a hole big enough to fit a primer into on the round part of the co2 cart. then glue on a bb to the primer fill with bp/flash/whatever and then figure out how to recharge the co2 since by drilling on the top you let out all of it (just realized that hmm nope i cant think of any way other then Zero's laucher wow i helped alot

Igniting (inigt?) leftover CO2 is something that will NEVER be very simple.

Re: Exploding ammo
isnt co2 in fire extingesures(<--Bad sp) so yeah i guess that would make it hard to light is no3(?) flamible nitris oxide that might work if it is but would a primer blow through a co2 cart. i would think it to be too thick
