Default ideas/questions

After looking at the cross-section of a handgrenade...i have a better way of lighting a pipebomb/explosive/whatever. It's an idea that needs refining, please help.

Handgrenades, instead of having a fuse, have something called a "Powder Chain". It's basically a block of powder. When the pin is removed, a spring pushes the 'spoon' off the grenade, which acts like a cigarette lighter and lights the powder chain.

I was thinking...what if you put a rocket engine inside a bomb, but widen the hole a bit to minimize propulsion. With the "powder chain"/fuse inside the bomb, it is less exposed to the elements. The burster charge at the end of the black powder could be used to ignite the rest of the explosives. You could use the top of a cig lighter to ignite the engine. Is this a good idea? If it is, can anyone give me a design for it? I'm a little short on cash (i'm a youngin, don't have much access to money), and i dont feel like wasting what i do have on rocket engines =). So, if anyone else has a few engines lyin around, or is better with explosives than i am, all help is welcome! Cheers.

I always thought grenades used percussion caps to light the powder chain...

Regardless, I think you'd be best off using something longer and thinner than a rocket engine. You can make your own powder grain by melting potassium nitrate and sucrose, or by wetting black powder with alcohol and packing it tightly.
