sort of....

Try a SIDE FUZED cratermaker, there is less, if not, no shrapnel at all (But still use common sence and, be cautious).

Would a 4 inch long,1 1/4 wide and a wall thickness of a little less than 1/4 inch work?
Thanks

explosions are generally caused by a sudden expansion of gas creating too much pressure for its container and bursting it. with low explosives (e.g. black powder) if the burning is uncontained then there is not an explosion as such, just burning. this is why model rocket engines dont explode but thrust. if you put it in the cardboard tube, i assume the the pressure needed to burst the tube would be so small that you would most likely get a thrust effect from the bp, rather than the explosive effect you are going for. so no, i dont think cardboard tubing would work. following rat's method is your best chance of success i think

i say this because even though thick cardboard is strong, even 1/4 inch thick cardboard, i have yet to shoot through and empty CO2 canister with my air pistol... and believe me ive tried.

yeah but in a rocket engine that powder is a solid chunck so its just one big grain of gun powder it burns slowly and the burning gases are shot through a nozzle creating thrust

it would work just not veary great

there is a old trick i found and that is to wrap that tube in string and cover with epoxy then allow to dry then repeat about 3 times so you have about 4 layers of this stuff then you have a really strong basically M-80

Heavy cardboard containers will make a good bang, but are lighter on the damage than metal.

whenever i try bp in a cardboard tube even after i have ball milled it i always end up getting a thrust out of where the fuse was.... even if i use a side fuse this happens... any suggestions?

Your powder sucks.

You do know that you have to press and grind it after you mill it, yes?

(Edit - Now THAT was an interesting typo.)
