Go get rubidium now!
I got a hold of this stuff and well damn! It works on the same principle as sodium except on an unbelevable scale. I had 2.5 grams of the stuff sealed in plastic wrap that I ganked from the chem supply room at school and cut a small hole in the plastic and threw into a cement trash out by a store near us that still had rain water in it. I had heard of its power, but this was mind blowing. It blew the fucking cement trash can to 4 peices! I had to fucking bolt, it scared the shit outta me because I was waiting for some water to shoot up or a bang, not a fucking bomb to go off. Seriously, get a hold of this stuff, but be careful!

Re: Go get rubidium now!
Fuckin shit! Those cement garbage cans are reinforced with steel rebar!
Years back at my elementry school some guy put a pipe bomb in one of those, It blew it to shit but the rebar was all twisted and had large chunks of cement sticking to it.

Re: Go get rubidium now!
No I call bullshit on this one, I highly doubt any school is going to have elemental rubidium lying around. I've heard of demonstrations at universitys years ago involving cesium and tubs of water, but it is too dangerous for high school chem. demonstration.
Plus the power of these lower alkali metals is amazing, but I doubt it is that amazing. Get real!

Re: Go get rubidium now!
Oh yeah the bang is essentially a hydrogen gas/air explosion resulting from the hydrogen released when the metal hits the water.

Re: Go get rubidium now!
yeah ive seen one of those caesium/glass trough demonstrations.. they are amazing. however while they totally annihilate glass, i would be surprised if even caesium would break one of those steel reabared things into four pieces. Also, in the UK the law is that you can only purchase anything like rubidium or more powerful (caesium for example) if you have a special certificate from the government, and i wouldnt be surprised if this is the same in the USA. they point to me telling you that is the in the UK schools can't get this certificates, and only colleges with proffessors who have specific training (some chemistry thing... understanding the power basically) can get them. So if the law is similar in the US your school wouldnt have the stuff.

i would have to agree i hardly think they would have it in a school chem lab but if they do how much would you like to sell some for ??

Re: Go get rubidium now!
Schools in Canada don't even demonstrate potasium anymore due to the teachers using to much and causing dangerous explosions.
