Co2 BOMBS.
I have made a co2 bomb. the one with the black powder filled to the top of a co2 cartridge. i was wondering,, how far away i should be from each blast, and is it a fire hazard. i will not be using schrapnel. ps.i was thinking about throwing the bomb at a flock of birds or other small creatures... should i use schrapnel or is it safe at all? what color is the explosion anyways?

Re: Co2 BOMBS.
You said that you were not useing schrappnel... well a co2 bomb is made of metal. metal=schrappnel you dumbass. But anyways, you want to be a good distance away from these, either use them below ground or on the other side of a tree or something. It is not so much a firehazard because the blast will last a very short time span, not enough to light MOST things.

Re: Co2 BOMBS.
My experience of CO2 bombs is that they lob a single bit of shrapnel very rapidly directly away from the sealed end of the cylender. Im not saying thats always what will happen but 4/4 of the ones Ive set off did. The risk of this bit hitting you is obviously minimal, but its not inconceivable. The chance diminishes in proportion to the square of the range. Explosion you'll see will be a white blast of smoke maybe with an orange flame in the centre. Has anyone had any luck with sugar/ sodium chlorate cylender bombs cos in my experience the mixture doesnt burn fast enough to cause an explosion and you get a worryingly unstable rocket. Anyone considered the lazy mans CO2 bomb? Just put an unpunctured CO2 cylender on a few firelighter blocks and allow the pressure to blow it open. You got about 5 minutes getaway. Trouble is about 20% of the time the thin puncturable metal film blows open. Even then you get a very fast projectile. One of mine that did that made 2 perfectly circular holes in 2 thick wooden fences. As the shrapnel/cylender generally flys away from the sealed end, you could direct it at a target.

Re: Co2 BOMBS.
doctor drunk, what do you use as a filler for your co2 bombs? I use a potassium perhclorate-succrose mixture and end up with 15-20 sharp fragments of the co2, not one large piece as you were describing.

Re: Co2 BOMBS.
I used black powder crumbled out of model rocket engines. 15 bits? sounds scary. I reckon it will depend more on the structure of the cylender than on the filler. I use military issue CO2 cylenders for life jackets stolen from the school's cadet store. Steel, about 4mm thick.

Re: Co2 BOMBS.
The CO2's I used were just normal old 12 gram CO2 cartridges used in pellet guns and such. The walls of those is rather thin.
