Default SmOkE_BoMz

White Smoke
Zinc Dust 30%
Hexachloroethane 50%
Zinc Oxide 20%

Mix ingredients and put in steel juice can, Add a length of fuse, and seal with masking tape. Don't use an aluminum can, This burns red hot.

Flowers of sulfur 16 parts
Potassium nitrate 12 parts

Air float charcoal 1 part

Ram into paper tube which has one end sealed with clay, Add fuse and an igniter such as a white star composition. Close end with a cardboard cap or clay plug.

Any comments or advice on using these formulas?

Mixing instructions? It can make a difference.

Your last recipe is a somewhat slow burning black powder, but it seems to me that the loading instructions would make more of a firecracker than a smoke bomb.

Don't forget the sugar/nitrate recipe. But by far the best I've come by for making thick white smoke has been equal amounts of pottassium nitrate and sulfur flour. Pack loosely in a container that has one loosely covered end, ignite via fuse.

TY for your input, Real.
As for the mixing, In the case of the first mixture, All of the ingredients are usually in the form of fine powder,So no more than mixing should be required.
In the case of the second mixture,
The nitrate is used in granular (fine powder) form, and the charcoal percentage is too low to provide fuel for a explosion of any consequence in a paper cased device with a small amount (< 30 grams) of mixture tightly packed in the tube.

I was looking for information about the sugar/KnO3 mixture when I came across this site, About half of those posting on other boards reported the mixture either burned with a flame and little smoke, Or failed to burn at all.

The S/Kno3 mixture sounds interesting, With Halloween just around the corner, Some of us may give it a try.
