what is nitromethane used for appart from illigal stuff where can i get it?

my friend had some for a gas powered remote control car. he got it at a hobby store. it was mad of expensive, like $10 a gallon. i wanted some as a simpler way to get fire to shoot from my muffler.

its used for some kind of racing cars and i also think its sometimes used for rocket fuel. you can buy it from a hobby shop for model airplanes but its often not in its pure form and if it is its hella expensive
why, wut do u need it for?
