Wicca is truly bullshit. Spells are meaningless. How can simply lighting a candle and chanting some words bring about some result?! I'm sure that if there were spirits, they'd have better things to do than your chores.

There are TWO people I want you to read.

First is Crowley. Read about him first, I stress. Certainly don't take him literally. Read about his life since it's very entertaining. I laughed my ass off all the way through a biography and his autobiography.

Second is A.O. Spare although he may be a little advanced this early in the game.

I say this to you because in them lies some amount of truth to what this Magick stuff is. It isn't magical at all, in fact, and you may be a little disappointed by how bland the reality is. Nevertheless, their methods, being based on sound theory and practice, will work.

Another person to read is Jung - a contemporary of Crowley. He's a little tough for most people but considered a real "white" magician to Crowley's black.

Of course, if you're a 30 year old woman and want to pick up some 13 year old girls, you can't beat Wicca.

The first thing to keep in mind is that, in Wicca, there is no "black" or "white". Power is a neutral force and it is your intent that defines it.

The second thing to keep in mind is that Wicca is a religions that includes magic rather than a strictly magical system. The religious symbols and metaphors associated with Wicca encourage a life of individual responsibility and that applies to how one directs power.

That said, by all means check out Crowley, Spare and the others although I recommend Spare over Crowley for his information regarding sigil magic and gnosis. Read Robert Anton Wilson. Read Dion Fortune and Gerald Gardner. Read folklore and mythology. Read Starhawk and Margot Adler. Read Castanada and Eliade. Hell, read Gimbutas for the Women's Spirituality perspective.

Read it all with a healthy filter in place - choose what works for you and discard the rest. Remember that everyone writing has their own biases, including those long ago writers of myth and saga.

If you're already settled on Wicca as your system, read the others anyway It will give you a good perspective and can only round out your magical technique.

i know a guy who was big into black magic, got into it at minot nd(big topic in the late '80s, with the mention of minot in the book the 'ultimate evil' in connection with the son of sam, and put minot on the world map). performed some tricks that were impressive, then filled us in.

ever notice how a lot of the spells require you to have your eyes closed, hmmm.

If you have ever met a real mage you have seen real magic. call it fake if you wish, the things that occur here, couldn't be more real. Some explain it as magic. Others reason it with science, some believe in supernatural. I choose magic, that's all. You beleive what you want. Remember this message board is for pagans and wiccans.
