Default Aethism-a Religion

I think that aetheism can be classified as a religion, It is believeing in not believing. What is religion believing in something. Aetheism is not believing in god. So technically wouldn't Aetheism be a religion not believing?

I don't think it can be called a "faith", but I see it as a religion, personally...

Atheism, a lack of religion, should not be considered a religion. Without religion we would have no need for its existance.

Arguing about anything doesnt solve anything... but we still do it. Atheism isnt the belife in not believing, its a lack of belief, so TECHNICALLY no it would not be considered a religion.SenorJesucristo, just because your atheist doesnt mean your right on the subject...

did i say i was right? did i say you were wrong?

the one thing that makes me mad is when people tell me my opinions are wrong. i will NEVER do that, because it makes me so mad. so when that christian tries to tell me that im going to hell because i have not accepted jesus as my savior, i can tell him that he will not exist after he is dead. poof, he will be gone. and you know what he will say? he will tell me i am wrong. and i will tell him he is wrong

Atheism is the belief in science. If you are an atheist then you believe that we have evolved from monkeys. The big bang did occur. And most importantly there is no superior being. Technically atheist have exsisted for quite a time. Buddhists do no believe in a god. They believe in Siddhartha Guatama, the teacher that first reached enlightenment, and taught others how to achieve inner peace. No superior being there. If trying to reach inner peace is a religion, then how come beleiving in science can't be one?

Okay, I believe in God as well as science, to a degree. Consider this when asking whether atheism (a = without, theism = beliefs) is a religion: Though it is true that bible-bashers will knock on your door and try to convert atheists, but it is equally true that atheists will come to bbs and try to convert christians.

No it isn't. And "evolved from monkeys" is not accurate... being this is a technical topic and all.

They have no officially sanctioned god, but a lot of them worship regional gods and idols, and some worship their ancestors as gods. Very few believe in a singlular god though.

I'm atheist, I don't base it on Science, The Big Bang, or even monkeys.

Town Drunkard, What would the religious forum be without people with different perspectives?
I know a lot of us like to sit around and agree with ourselves, patting each other on the back; Others of us don't like staying in a perpetual state of boredom.

by dictionary.com's definition religion is believing in a god or spiritual leader (i think, i looked it up ages ago) so by that definition, it isn't a religion. I'm atheist though and i consider it a religion

Belief in science is scientology.... Atheism is a LACK of belief, plain and simple. SenorJesucristo, my opinion could be that im the queen of england, that doesnt make it true. Your opinion about atheism being a religion, IS wrong.

Fine, You are wrong.

Making up alter-definitions and arguing semantics gets boring. The meaning of words are not up for debate.

Courtesy of Dictionary.com:

Atheism:
*Disbelief in or denial of the existence of God or gods.
*The doctrine that there is no God or gods.
*Godlessness; immorality.

Religion:
*Belief in and reverence for a supernatural power or powers regarded as creator and governor of the universe.
*A personal or institutionalized system grounded in such belief and worship.
*The life or condition of a person in a religious order.
*A set of beliefs, values, and practices based on the teachings of a spiritual leader.
*A cause, principle, or activity pursued with zeal or conscientious devotion.

So there you go, Atheism is not a religion, as it has no grounded, set of beliefes, or practices, but instead describes anyone who does not believe in the existance of a God. Now that I've cleared that up...

I believe that there is no god to the point that I will say it as a fact; that doesn't make it a religion.

If religion means everything, then religion means nothing. Theists just want atheism to be a religion so they have a "you too" excuse for being illogical.
