Re: Chrismas tree?
When the christians wanted to convert the pagans, they made a concession. The pagans could keep their tree worshipping holiday. They all accepted it.

Re: Chrismas tree?
Some dipshit teacher showed us a video in gradeschool about how a father lost his way in the woods and his kids but candles up in a tree in the front yard so he would see the light and be able to find his way home. Warms the heart and turns the stomache on how far they will go to brainwash kids.

If you want some fun, go ask anyone why they have a tree. I guarantee it'll be fun.

Re: Chrismas tree?
Yeah. All those people up and down my block with Christmas trees were first in line to slaughter the Wodekund. My parents too...

Re: Chrismas tree?
They hold small things that arent worth the wrapping paper or would just get lost under the tree...
Also, a lot of traditions refer to spirits and other lil benevolent things leaving gifts in your shoes, I bet it has to do with that.

Re: Chrismas tree?
Christmas was originally the winter solistice. The ancient druids practiced tree worship, the evergreen tree to them represented eternity.
Now good ol' Constantine declares Christianity the official religion of Rome when he converts to it (which is one of the many acts that caused it to be so popular today) but the former Pagans are unwilling to give up their observed Pagan holidays, so he incorporates them over into Christianity. December 25'th, the winter solistice, becomes Christ's birthday, complete with the tree from the solistice and all. Easter, which was named after the pagan bird God Esthere, becomes the day of ressurection.
Christianity "borrowed" many things from the Pagans, much of it was incorporated into the doctrine as well.

Re: Chrismas tree?
Its not just the Druids, whose influence is kinda sucky. All the Romans celebrate Saturnalia at the same time, which indluded decorating trees and giving gifts. Everyone in Europe worshipped and celebrated the Solstice.

Which, ironically enough, he didn't convert to until his own death.

Re: Chrismas tree?
There are many reason for the pine tree in the house. One of them is the Pagan holy day shit. The other is that during the time that christmas is celebrated the Pine tree is the only tree with needles and leaves on it, while all the other trees are barren. The tree is to represent the comfort that Jesus the Christ brings to life and that while everything else is dead the tree is still alive.
