The Bible and the Ice Age
I was watching the movie "Ice Age" the other day and suddenly it struck me that I have no idea whether the Bible mentions the Ice Age or not. Does it? If not then something fishy is going on. Opinions are as always very welcome.

Re: The Bible and the Ice Age
Why would it be fishy if it didnt mention the Ice Age? The Bible is for Hebrews...They lived on just about the only area of land untouched by glaciers.

Re: The Bible and the Ice Age
According to the bible the whole universe is 4000 years old. the last ice age ended about 10000 years ago.

Re: The Bible and the Ice Age
People who argue about the bible from a literal standpoint are fuckin retarded, regardless of what side they are taking.

That idea had never crossed my mind until I read Strata by Terry Pratchett. Recommended light philosophical reading.

Well is there an index in the Bible that distinguishes Literal vs Moral Story??? Because People that go by the bible will say "oh, that part is literal, and that other part is a moral teaching" and another person will say the same thing but opposite in story. Ex: Adam & Eve, ppl can't seem to agree on whether you should take it literally or .... you know the rest.

Actually, borrowed it off a friend, who was also a Pratchett fan.

Re: The Bible and the Ice Age
thats bullshit. you cannot say everything that suits us is literal and the other bits are metaphorical. unless youve got a special bible decoder then everything is up for grabs. everything created as a result of the bible is crap. who is anyone to say these bits are the bits we follow? its all or nothing.
but considering the bible is nothing more than an adults story book, it is alot more reasonable to go for nothing.

The 4000 year view of history is a drastic misinterpretation of the bible. In reality, I'd say there's a good argument for the bible covering fifteen million years of history, albeit metaphorically.
