Just a passing thought. Could god have manufactured satan to make himself needed. Sort of like George Bush (god figure) and Sadam (satan figure) sort of thing. (granted sadam exsists, but alot of that stuff is crap)!

Lucifer was an angel. God's top angel, in fact. When God created the angels he told them to bow only to him. When God created man, he told the angels to bow to man. Lucifer could not bow to men; only to God.

For his not doing what he was told, he was banished to hell. The worste of hell's pains is said to be the lack of God's love.

Of course, when you travel down this line of thought, you create an image of Satan and God that doesn't fit well with the popular views which are so good for controling the minds of the willing.

God made Lucifer the greatest of all the angels. He also gave them a free will, which means that they could either love God, or reject Him (and suffer the consequences). Personally I don't understand why they rebelled in the first place. Abuse of their ability to choose, I suppose.

Actually, privatives like 'dark' only have a discrete existence within the context of 'light'

Conversely, if the entire world was equally bright, then light would mean nothing, because there is no way to measure its existence, or to measure it.

If there was no evil in the world, we wouldn't know that evil didn't exist. Therefore we wouldn't know that we were livin' in goodness.

Evil is good, to some extent. It depends on what side of the battle you are on. If you are stealing from a convienience store, you are benefiting your physical health, you are building up your sences and reactions, and you also are doing good to the company, for selling products for prices higher then it costs to make them. Yeah, I've read possession stories.

I've also read stories of people being abducted by aliens and anally raped by El Chupacabra.

I also read one not too long ago of the Insane Clown Posse being visited by spirits from the Dark Carnival and gradually recieving 6 special messages to all that will listen before the evil consumes us all. How do you know? I find this is the one thing about Christians that annoy me the most. They say they KNOW things. Without a doubt. They know the truth. They know how the universe works.

Yet.

They don't.

How can they? No human can ever KNOW things (save for conventional things, like the earth being round, the sun being hot) which are held by faith, are just opinions or the like. The most we can do is THINK we know.

So when you say 'There is a Satan, Trust me', I say 'What makes you so sure.'

And then the usual response is something like...
'It's written in the bible, which is the word of God and TRUTH!'

And I say 'How do you know it's the Word of god? It was written my several old men over thousands of years!'

And you say 'Because once you feel God's love, you know it's true.' (Or variation thereof.)

And my final reply before I move on to find more intellegent rabble is usually. 'I was a Devout Christian for 8 years, where's the love? I see nothing more then a book of Jewish Folktails (As totse.com so lovingly puts it ). If you're going to give me demands and try to scare be into your faith with threats of eternal damnation, at least have something more then a few muddled historical accounts and an old book to back it up.'

And you finish the night of with 'Well, Jesus Loves You Always, you'll see it one day.'
