Default Christianity and the misery that followes

Christianity has always been a religion that thrives on peoples misery. Although they don't call it misery they call it sacrifices. Christianinty speaks of sacrifices in this life to better the next. Although their has never been any logical argument saying their is an afterlife. My question to you is why would you want to make any sacrifices in your life now for something that can't be historically proven true?

Because Mommy and Daddy say people who ask questions go to hell. What isn't logical about that?

Most children are supposed to. That is where the foundation of Christianity begins...with children.

Why do childern have to learn their morals from religion. Why can't thier parent's teach them morals and virtues on their own rather than relying on anorganized religon to teach their beliefs. Christianty scares childern into believeing rather than by encouraging them to learn to be moral and just.

Your argument is typical and idiotic. Believing good conduct is rewarded after your death is not unique to Christianity, and happens in societies consistently enough that it could be considered a near universal to humanity. Its a conclusion most people would reach on their own without religion- its just an extension of the instinct that tells us sometimes our blood and tears are necessary to make things better for those that will come after.

I choose christianity because it's the most common religion in the USA. And yes it is found in nearly ever part of the world. But if their was no religion preaching about the after-life and why it's necessary for them to follow these tenats in their life now how do you figure most people would be morally good. Also are you saying that people are by nature good?

Yes. But they would also quickly invent new stories about how being good earns you points upstairs.

I wasnt saying that at all.

But I do agree with that, yes, since I consider human nature to define what is good for humans.

Why would their be an upstairs if their was no religion? I also think that people would not be "good" unless threatened by someone or something that's why our government has laws because people are not morally good. It's not in our nature to do what is good for the sake of other's. It's human nature to do what is needed for our survival.

I would suggest teaching from past experiences and adapting as time goes on, that why we can find what's best for human kind. It would be an evolving process over time so their wouldn't be as many questions and different views on what is moraly correct. Rather then never changing like religion does. Religion only changes it's views when people start to abandon it. That is one of it's biggest weaknesses. It lacks the ability to change when it needs to.

Misery you say? My friend the only reason you would be miserable when you sacrifice is that you are already too attached to things of this world. So your excuse for not wanting to live a (in my opinion) wholesome life is that we can't prove there's an afterlife? If indeed it was proved there was a heaven then I'm sure you would be happy to give up your worldly pleasures right? But that would defeat the purpose of religion.
Just think about that, because I'm too confused to write anymore at the moment.

How would you plan on ever being able to prove the idea of an afterlife? I would like a logical answear nothing related to feelings or beliefs. Something that can be quantized or qualitized would be a good start. And if their was a God I wouldn't give up a thing for him, after all using the christian bible as refrence he made the world for us. So why would I give up my carnal pleasures for him?

Christianity has been used by so many people that it has become a relgion of misery. so many people think that by being part of a community or social gathering once a week will let them feel better about themselves when all they seem to be doing is sinking deeper into a pit of misery mirrored by the religon that they choose.

There are churches in which this subconcious tactic is definitely used as a primary attack tool to get more money and obedience through followers. And those leaders are so deep in the misery that they themselves propagate that the only way out is to forgive thyself before the one you worship will even consider you.

Just for the record, the phone number to the MINISTER of the local Catholic church is 3666 where i live. this creepy symbol of hypocytical xtianhood(or satanhood for short)coupled with 22 other churches and a masonic temple make me wonder what the hell is going on where i live. The color scheme to the church is dark red brick and a pale yellow trim which is strangely reminicent of blood and urine for some reason.

I don't plan on proving there is an afterlife. I was just making some obscure point that...I've forgotten. And you're not giving up your carnal pleasures for Him, it's for your own good.

It's what those of us that have been thinking for ourselves for awhile usually end up doing. Not usually religion in general, organized religion for the most part. The defination of a "cult." A system or community of religious worship and ritual. This defination has been taken from The American Heritage Dictionary. So it looks like all religions can be classfied as cults from this defination. My parents made me go to sunday school till around the time I was ten. The minister then requested that my parents remove me from class becaus I was disruptive. So no, I have never held any significant religious beliefs regarding God.
I have read the Bible parts of the Koran and most of the Torah. I have a philosophy and theology degree. I hope that this qualify's me to par take in this discussion forum. I know it's fragemented took me a bit to think what I wanted to say.

The ever humble BuD.

90% of our holidays are about people trying to kill us, meaning we eat a big feast and celebrate that we live. There is a few holidays that are sad but only one is about your sins (yom kippur), and in that holiday you just shed your sins like the evil they are. (Note: certain things arnt really excusable even through this method: Killing (except in self defence), Incest, beastiality, etc.)
