Default Bash the religion but appreciate what it was ment to do.

ooo its a cult!
Bah bull shit, its become a cult
Go off the idea that religion started in one place. All religions have the same basis same main morals to fallow. Dont lie dont murder...
Without this we would be a bunch of monkeys, like cave men. We would not be able to start a community work together and build a safe society to live in.
so lets think that back in the day people were happy with these morals that were put in place by some leader. Then lets say groups of people started to split apart because of some change like race. When people split apart they want to keep their group large and strong so they can survive. Soon enough things were added to these morals to brain wash people and hold them as a group.
Never in the beginning of Islam they had Islam extremeness that believed in beating their women, killing people for petty crimes against their religion. It was just added on.
But even if things were added on appreciate the fact that the religion existed. Think of places where people starve to death, they may have a hut to live in they dont hardly have forms of communication. Most of those people dont no of any god or the idea of a god. They also have no basic morals because no one has teached them any. Basically animals

Things get skewed over time. No use dwelling on religions fallacies. Many positive things have come from religion. Think?

More negative than positive.

More positive than negative. Name one athiestic society that has survived and prospered for many generations. One might not believe in the various stories as a literal fact, but religion does give a social order and belief in a purpose higher than yourself to keep the generations going.

I am an aethiest but i appreciate that many people feel comforted by the fact that when they die they dont just rot away, So in this sense for all believers of any faith religion is vital true or otherwise.

Although I doubt anyone understood the point i was making....feel free to argue this.

Perhaps if everyone took on my theory, there'de be less fighting in the world, including less religious wars!

'Everyones a nut case except for me!'

Example:

'Hey sir, have you found Jahova?'
'Yeah.' [turns to wife] 'koo koo - koo koo!'

or

'We must sacrafice cows around a large pit of virgins' blood or we will al die!
'Dont you know it! cough.moron.cough'

WORKS FOR ME!

Religion robs the individual of free will. It tells you what to do and what not to do. Just like the government telling you want to do and what not to do. And over time more moral codes or laws are passed to try and take more choices away from the individual till one day we are left with nothing.

Well if u still like religion your a dumbshit
Peace

'religion does give a social order and belief in a purpose higher than yourself to keep the generations going'

This is probably the single worse thought fallacy committed by human beings, the one that continues to stifle the expansion of human evolution and consciousness. Organized religion has done much more harm than good, and continues to do so. Imagine a world without religion. Humans concentrating on being humans, for the sake of being human. Helping one another because it is simply the right thing to do. Doing good for the sake of feeling good. Their purpose living for the sake of living. Generations continuing to go, without Jihads, or child-raping Catholic priests, or money-grubbing televangelists, and people murdered in countless numbers daily simply because their ideals don't match someone elses.

Name one atheistic society that has survived and flourished for multiple generations.

Only when the individual allows that to happen.

Not all religions spring from the same morality.

Why do I need religion to restrict me when I have the government to do that.

I don't want ether.
I am free from moral restrictions but I am forced to be slaved by the government.

Don't forget that religions explained how the world worked...

...a role which has now largely been replaced by modern science.

Originally religion, science, ethics and social organisation were more or less the same thing...

Enter science, the separation of church and state, etc... and now religion is a stand-alone concept with little relevance to life today...

We've all heard the arguement that religion is in place in order to control the crowds and make them obey your rules out of fear of your god.

Religion wasn't made to help us "choose the right path". It was made to control us. Jesus could have been any ol' bum off the street payed money to do all the shit he did. And why? So the people in charge could use him and then feed off of the impresion he made on the crowd. And if enough people bought in to it they (people in charge) say, "hey look what he left us before we killed him" or "hey i had this fucked up dream but all the stuff that happened in it is true. so pay me money and don't be happy." and that would be the bible. Same for other religions. We have that still going on today. Pop stars= evil spys out to convert the world. Hey, it's just as likely as a woman being turned into a pillar of salt because she felt sorrow for everything she loved being destroyed. I guess in the end it all comes back to CONTROL and when control gets turned into FUCKING NOTHING AND EVERYTHING. Right. Sorry bout that- blacksheep
