I've been reading up on crowley and the magick arts for about a year now. The man was undoubtedly brilliant, and the magick system is very imaginative and understanding it can deeply elaborate any understanding you may have human psyche...but overall i don't really see any practicality in it, especially when it comes to these rituals...they don't seem to accomplish anything. If there are any 'thelemites' on this board, or any related parties,...where am i wrong here?

In believing Crowley was anything but full of shit. I heard all kinds of coolness about him and wanted pretty badly to believe there was some truth to the powers he could tap into and the existence of some of the things he talked about, but everything I read from him was just vomitted cliches over and over again that seemed to be aimed at tricking teenagers. I never read anything that wasnt just repetitive, subtle condemnation of Christianity or healthy psychology.

I read a lot about "black arts" when I was younger, the psychology is interesting and was probibly designed to suck in people who feel they lack controll of their lives and need to make up for it by infuencing people and events with rituals and spells.

i think you will find that the essence of Crowleys teachings are a)a person can only be themselves, to try to be anything else is a farce b)the only tool rationality has to cope with existance is number which underlies his teachings. personally i've not found anything he attempted to do which cannot be done simply on ones own by ones own or in ones own and i was 'raised' in the western alchemical tradition. if you want to know more about those who promote him search channel 93

I believe through rituals you can tap into the spiritual realm and find your spirit buddy just like this guy did your taliking about.
