The Bible - Bulshit or Not
I have been brought up as a christian. Recently I have been thinkin about god, jesus, heaven and I have realized how idealistic it is - So much its got to be bullshit.
Out all of the things that could happen to when you die a wourld were anything you want is yours and eternal peace is probably the most preferable I doubt its by chance that this is whats supposedly on offer if your a good boy.
The bible speaks of heaven as if it is in the sky, we know its not they didnt so thats the reason they said it.
Why do angels supposidely have wings because they have got to fly back to heaven in the sky. Well we no thats not true.
You can almost see what whoever wrote the bible was thinkin, it all seems like alot of bulshit to me now.
Im never going to church again. Fuck it all, imagine dieing and finding out you have been worshiping some fuckers bad attempt at a book for nothing.

I think the Bible is kinda like a scrap book. Its full of truth but also small stories made up to show 'concepts'. It has analogies, metaphors etc. I think a lot of the bible has been misunderstood to a great degree. And i also think christianity is a result of this misunderstanding

The bible constantly contradicts itself. It is covered in bullshit. It is simply a way to maintain idealistic morales which restrict human nature and a way to help people cope with death.

Re: The Bible - Bulshit or Not
One problem which recurs for Christians is whether the Bible is a book "of religion", a book "about religion", or a book of "ultimate truth".
These dilemmas have plagued the Church since day one. The book is replete with inconsistencies and contradictions and yet multiple people refuse to acknowledge reality and continue onward based on "faith".
My experience has shown that folks at your point of religious experience have as a next step, total atheism and total rejection of things religious.
Before going the total atheist route, consider this. We can go on and on philosophically about the origins of the universe, multiple parallel universes, big bang, black holes, ad nausium. But coming right down to the issue of life, we lack good theories (Primordal soup- I think not).
Mankinds inherent nature to wonder why has led to multiple theories. Spend some time doing some real soul searching and ask yourself, is my problem with a particular religious dogma, or am I still searching for answers.
Hope this helps.

Re: The Bible - Bulshit or Not
This is a hard question. The acounts of the bible are sometimes proven by modern science (such as the destruction of Sodom and Gomorah [spelled wrong, I know] when around a yard of ash was found over the ruins of the cities, or the peoples of northern Africa who are the descendans of Pharoh's magicians [who were a seperate race], who fled after seeing the power of the "God of Abraham"), but there are also many acounts which cannot be proven. When you think of the number of scribes who must have passed down the books of the Old Testament, it is beond belief that they would all be copied with complete accuracy.
If you look at much of the old testament in detail, you will see that much of it could be taken as alien interaction, such as people being taken into heaven by fiery chariots, or vehicles with rotating wings landing is a cloud of dust and fire. This would explain to an extent why God and angles are described as from the heavens.

Re: The Bible - Bulshit or Not
Steele,
We agree about the aliens.
When you look at the words available to the authors of those ancient texts, they now had to describe incredible sights, sounds, and objects with those words, ie Jacobs ladder, ______ wheel (The persons name escapes me at the moment- brainfart).
In any event, (spacemen) Sons of God looked upon the daughters of men and found them fair. Doesn't that say it all.

Re: The Bible - Bulshit or Not
If you read even further, you will find acounts of angels mating with human women (their offspring are known in the Bible as Nephelim, if memory serves), and devels (a destinction between devils and demons is made, and is relevant) mating with humans and producing offspring known as Gibberelin. Goliah and his son were well-known Gibberelin. It is thought that the "devils" mated with humans to polute the human bloodline so that a "pure" Christ could not be born. I do not have a Bible with me to check that the above is correct, but I am fairly confidant about everything but the spelling.

Re: The Bible - Bulshit or Not
For a long time I have embraced the alien theory. When you look at the fact that Neandethal stayed the same for 1.9 million years (Lucy was essentially the same as the last Neanderthal) and Cromagnon suddenly appeared. Not only did Cromagnon suddenly appear, but Cromagnon appeared in varieties, negroid, caucasoid, asiatic, indian, et al. A whole bunch of evolution had to take place really quick.

Re: The Bible - Bulshit or Not
Sometimes it is hard to imagine that people that in other ways are seemingly worthy of respect and interest can believe so whole-heartedly in the teachings of one particular religion and holding in contempt the notion that the dissimilar teachings of another might hold merit. The only thing it seems you can be absolutely sure is true is something that you yourself know to be true, without the involvement of your own minds perceptions in analyzing something, how in the world can you honestly take things for fact? If you can, then following one particular religion is probably a good and convenient thing. Once you start questioning, like you have, then in my opinion it is a good tactic to treat the body of knowledge accumulated to date of religious teaching/ knowledge/ & experiences of others, like a giant smorgasborg. Learn about and investigate any and all philosophies that interest you, or, in people that you meet, you run across a good source of personal experience to peruse if they are willing. You will find ideas that feel very right to your inner self and those that rub you the very wrong way. Keep what you like and be advised of the rest. You needn't be contemptful or disrespectful of ideas you do not agree with or those who hold them as truths, if others find comfort and inner peace with something, fine, take what you like and leave the rest. Start your own "Religious ideas I like" file. The book I found the most stuff I liked in was "The Kybalion" it presented the principles of Hermetic Philosophy. Sometimes people will have a period in their lives when everything and everyone around them seems to be part of some unbelievably miraculous and impossibly coincidental series of events, it leaves a lasting impression on them whether or not they share it with others or not. I think the people who've written alot of the most popular religious texts had such experiences and it is to their credit that they were compelled to try and relate them to others. That thoughts might outlive individuals seems like on potentially viable form of immortality and that mortals should continue to question and examine the thoughts of those who came before them ,seems like the perfect tool to enable this immortality.

Christianity is the result of Christ. Just means those that follow the teachings of christ. How many of us are true christians. Not those morons on TV thats for sure. PS.. Bible codes guys. The Bible is a time machine in my opinion. Someone logged events 2000 years ago that are coming of age today. Im not a new age christian or UFOatarian but i really have to question the people or spirits of other worlds mention in the bible. Biblical Paintings showing space crafts off behind Christ. We were primative then and i think its possible that christ tried to explain things in ways that man could only understand then. But I still believe Jesus is the true spirit of God and not just a man spreading peace and love. he was well ahead of his time. and in the harsh Jewish culture of that period it was unheard of to have a man be so forgiving. But you guys believe what you want. you cant say the bible codes are chance.

That's the kind of trippy, unbelievably miraculous type of stuff, not entirely, but in part....that I mean, not really ufo's per say, mostly the coincidental and physically miraculous on the human level sections...someone says something profound, then looks up and all the stars seem to fall from the sky. In a moment all their present concerns are answered/alieviated in an incredibly tailored and enlightening way. For the next few weeks regular people, on the street and the radio, make a point to comment, seemingly with great familiarity with ones inner, most personal experiences and even thoughts not yet complete..in a most unmistakable way on these events. Though none of them, themselves, has any way of knowing how profoundly coincidental their words are....an overall theme emerges to all this and then goes on to demonstrate and evidence itself daily until skepticism gives way, respectfully, to a sense of wonder and amazement and almost inevitably the desire to share all this with others...
It doesn't last at that intensity forever, when the daily miralces subside, a feeling that there are relatively few coincidences and an unlimited supply of perceptions to be open to is firmly implanted.....
Ignoring intuition seems a grave mistake when that realm has been in the forefront. Have a good Saturday.

Re: The Bible - Bulshit or Not
Indeed. I agree in part with some of the alien theories my self. My opinion of Christ is this. He was a man. Born with some of the knowledge that shows he belongs to God. He probably had some recollection of his past lives, whether human or not. With some of the knowlege he was birthed with he knew his path was to seek god and become one with god. This he did and worked god's work to help spread his knowledge.
Gotta go, more later.

Re: The Bible - Bulshit or Not
Ok, I don't know exactly where I was leaving off.
Intuition, is something I strongly recognize as a guiding force in my life. And like you said it comes in cycles. But you can train your self to become aware of synchronicities(more like being open to them) like you were saying and in doing this you can notice a lot more things that go on. It's like when you open yourself up to the possibility of synchronisities and...become more aware of what's going on around you, you just kind of "pick-up" on a lot more of the coincedences that go on guiding your life instead of things that would stand out if even you were blind, or deaf or whatever the case may be.
P.S. I don't think man's mind has changed that much since Christ's time. That's probably why their was so much trouble back then and why their is so much trouble in the world today. You will be hard put to discover another man with the heart of Christ inside of him/her. But more people are coming around.

Re: The Bible - Bulshit or Not
Douglas Adams was a cool author.
I used to be christian since I was a kid because that had been ingrained in my skull since youth. But since I started thinking more freely I was able to become more thought based and less faith based. You have multiple religions with conflicting views saying that you will go to a bad place if you do not believe in them, fuck that.
I do believe that there is a God ("Intellegent Design Theory" as dubbed by scientists) but any definition we have today is either corrupted by man and misinterpretation and that the universe didnt just create itself out of nothing because if nothing ever did exist then nothing ever could exist without something like the God factor doing something in order to get the shit set in motion.
Alot of this is covered in the Big Bang et all thread that I made a big ass post in. But as for religion I don't know what I am, I guess it's some sort of agnosticism but I also have alot of philosophies and ideas/"ideals" that I stick to, some taken from select areas like certain parts of Buddhism.

Hello. I'm another new-goer here. I just wanted to say about what you were saying about a couple posts ago, about the impossible, miraculous things that Jesus tried to make the people interpret, remember in the bible about how it said a star appeared in the sky when Jesus was born (polaris) Maybe that star was an alien space ship watching over Jesus's progress, no I'm joking but that could be true about aliens having influenced the bible. Ok I'm starting to sound not intelligent.. Later

As I see it, the only joking part of this post is the reference to polaris as Jesus star. And in that respect I totally agree with your joke...a dim star...and the singular star the ancient people would not have made that mistake on. However, the concept of alien origin for persons or populations is not of current origin. There are religious paintings from the middle ages which contain objects which could be interpreted as space vehicles. Nox

Re: The Bible - Bulshit or Not
To answer the original question... it's bullshit.
Let's suppose I write me up a Gospel and give it to you. I'll put a lot of "golden rule" type stuff in there, don't fuck with other people if you don't want to be fucked with stuff. I'll add a few things in there about how much cash you need to donate to the Temple of Thanos for me to keep your ass from burning in this lake of fire that you'll never find on this planet, no matter how long you look. Plus, that way I don't have to go pull weeds out the fields or anything since we quit being hunter/gatherers and became more of an agricultural society when we started banding together into towns. Why hell, with enough of you, all I need to do is manage the Temple!
Now imagine the Temple takes off and goes great guns for, oh, say 2000 years. And my original gospels get re-written here and there to suit the social climate at any given moment. And me and my descendants (who of course are the only ones qualified to give you the word of God since I originally wrote all this stuff as a result of a 40-day peyote/fasting ordeal) have a highly successful church for a couple millenia.
Sound familiar?

The bible as most of the so called "holy books" is, and there is no doubt about that,an altered history book. Altered to suit the leaders will. History book: as it tells about passed civilizations.By camparing old writings and scultuted clay tablets we find that all the stories from the bible were just borrowed from previous civs.In my opinion the bible was just written by a wise man who new poeples weakeness which is the fear of the unknown! Throughout history kings, emprors and leaders (untill now!) use religion as a weapon to control the mobs. According to some wise french philosophe: Religion is the drug of the society.

i believe the bible iz, az a few people hav sed already, a history book created by people with limited wayz of describing thingz, and yes it most probly would hav been changed to suit the viewz of some ruler(priestz, kingz, whutever). but religion it self iz a ton of crap, a way to manipulate people, and churchez (at least most of them) are just there to make money, "we can save your soul, but first let us pass the collection plate". listen to the song 'Hellalujah' by the Insane Clown Posse, duz a nice parody of these TV preistz. but i'll tell ya whut, topicz like this are exelent for the drunken disscussion .

if you dont believe in God then let it go. if you do Believe in God then why ask if its Bullshit?
You want to believe then you cant talk to people in this world about him. Try talking to him spiritually. random?? I dont think so. if we evolve as a species then why are we trying to destroy earth. If we evolved to this highly advance level then we improve our planet and not be greedy and destroy it.

Most people here believe that the bible is total bullshit, while forgetting that it has many truths to it. Noah's ark and the flood, the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, and several other events of the bible have been proven to be true by archeolgical digs. Everytime I see someone post, "The book is full of shit" I remember how scholars also said the same about the destruction of the city of Troy, which was proved to be a fact.

The contradictory bullshit more than makes up for the historical truths though. (Exo 33:20) "But," he said, "you cannot see my face; for no one shall see me and live." (Gen 32:30) So Jacob called the place Peniel, saying, "For I have seen God face to face, and yet my life is preserved." [This message has been edited by Dark_Magneto (edited 08-04-2002).]

I'm not a religous person, not by a long shot, but I don't fault other people for being. If religion helps you, great. It never did a thing for me.
As for the Bible Code thing, the bible has been rewritten so many times by one group of people then another, words dropped here, things changed there, that I don't think you could ever trust what you find when you do the code breakdown, you certainly won't find the "true" message.
The bible is an amalgamation of stories, lessons, rememberances, heresay, and who knows what else. Yes, there are what could be construed as truths in it, but a few truths does not make rock solid evidence. The bible was written, or at least started, somewhere in the vicinity of 200 years after the death of Jesus Christ according to "scholars", but how can they be sure? We all know what happens when a story goes around a room, it comes back to you totally different.
You can read and believe the bible, but you have to keep in mind that it is just a book. When I was in high school in the 70's my history book still said "and one day, man will walk on the moon", does anyone know if we made it?

You can read and believe the bible, but you have to keep in mind that it is just a book.
Religions are mainly sops to the ruling elite, some make genuine attempts at teaching 'truth', but mostly they seem to be either instruments of social control, social clubs, and/or they are lost in confusion and delusion. The Bible as per the topic is a construct of the Roman Catholic Church, an organisation that is guilty of the torture and murder of countless numbers of people. People whose 'sin' was disinclination to toe the papal line, and yet we see so many of the world leaders visiting the pope for a private audience. Heard that to get a private audience one has to kiss the popes toe and worship him as god! Fair go! Is that true? Does anybody know? Anyway there is truth in the bible as there seems to be in many of the other holy books, it takes some spiritual discernment to seperate the added political crap from the pure thoughts of ancient sages and philosophers relating their beliefs and experiences. Perhaps the 'key to knowledge' of the bible is in the gospel of John. In the first chapter there is a statement that 'the light shines in the darkness and the darkness did not comprehend it'. To me that means that, for the genuine seeker of knowledge, the bible is useful - if, one can discern the mind-control strategies of the revisionists who translated it. They could not comprehend the truth, thus were not able to change it. "Seek and ye shall find" - (a good dictionary that takes words back to their latin, greek and hebrew meanings is helpful) [This message has been edited by redzed (edited 08-24-2002).]

Re: The Bible - Bulshit or Not
to examine this question honestly, we must like dark says, examine the facts of the origin of the religion itself, hebrews and the jewish faith.
the first 6 books of the bible were written by moses.
moses an orphaned infant found by the pharaoh's daughter in the nile, and raised as a member of the pharaoh's family(the only reason a slave would have the ability to hold a court with the pharaoh).
being raised like this he had access to the pharoah's library in alexandria, as history tells one of the most complete libraries in the history of the world until it was burned by napoleon i think it was.
with egypt being a major port in the world as well, the library was filled with writings from all cultures, which moses had the full authority to peruse.
moses living as a free man did not like seeing his people living as slaves and wanted to free them.
but to free them, they couldn't live in egypt, which is all the hebrew knew.
so he borrowed the egyptian story of jacob who held favor in the pharoahs eyes and sold to the egyptians by his eleven brothers, and you have the twelve tribes of israel.
he took the story of the flood in the epic of gilgamesh and gave it a hebrew spin, as you can tell by the two accounts, the epic of gilgamesh account tells of the animals being brought on board two by two, the hebrew account tells of the animals brought on board seven of every clean and two of every unclean animal.
i don't know the origin of the creation story but here you have two accounts as well, the first not jewish, is where man is created last, and man and woman created at the same time. the jewish version tells of man being created first, the animals then created for man, and woman taken from adam's rib the very last.
now moses needs to motivate the slaves to give up their shelter, and their guaranteed food and go to a land that is only remembered through bedtime stories. giving up everything to start a new.
the only way to do this was to convince the people that they were the chosen of god, and to guarantee it, the polytheistic beliefs common at the time were replaced by a monotheistic one. because it would truly be meant to be, if the one god of israel could beat all the gods of egypt.
the egyptians have records of hebrew slaves but do not mention the exodus. why?
it was stated earlier here, history is always written in the favor of those who are writing it.
since the pharoah was god incarnate, to be undone by a bunch of slaves would destroy their system, so the hebrews were considered a forbidden subject and never spoke of again, as their records show. there is no mention at all of what happened to the hebrews, one day they were there the next they were gone.
now we come to the parting of the red sea and one of biggest coincidences of ALL time.
translation errors have made the parting of the sea become the red sea, but historians agree that it was most likely the reed sea, a shallow river outside of egypt, around the time of the exodus as mentioned in the bible, and the time when the hebrews were no longer mentioned in egyptian writings coincide, it is a scientifically verified fact that a volcano in the mediterranean erupted this same time destroying the one of the cultures off the coast of greece who some say were the atlanteans, i can't remember the name but i want to say the cretes, but that's wrong.
when you stand on a beach what happens to the shore line as a wave comes in, it recedes.
the erupting volcano created a tidal wave, that pulled the reed sea away from the land and allowed the hebrews to cross, the resulting tidal wave from the explosion engulfed the egyptian soldiers that were in the midst of crossing(if any, since the bible reports that the entire egyptian army was wiped out).
that is the origin of the jewish faith, and can be viewed in it's entirety on the history channel, history's mysteries, who was moses the next time it comes on.

It seems we cannot know, with a full measure of certainty, the truth of the existence of Almighty God. If it is impossible to prove or disprove an issue is it wise to consider both points of view as correct until proven otherwise? OK sounds like a contradiction? How can one believe God exists and also that God does not exist? It's called a dialectic: an interpretive method pioneered by the ancient philosopher Zeno, and used by Hegel in which contradictions are resolved at a higher level of truth(synthesis-the process of combining objects and ideas into a complex whole). For example: If one considers how to conduct one's daily life in harmony with both ideas i.e. God does exist-God does not exist, behaviour can be directed in a fashion consistent with both. Attention to the moment would be one such behaviour. The present moment is by far the most meaningful of existence as it will always be the present moment. Living in the present, is living in eternity, whatever happens be it death or life it happens in the moment. Seeing as we may not know, without reasonable doubt, the facts - living in the present is one such behaviour harmonious with both points of view. If God exists, then attention to the moment may be beneficial in gaining knowledge of God, if God does not exist then living in the moment allows one to fully appreciate the life now lived, it may not return - thus this becomes our eternity, the only life we will ever know. Applying the dialectics method to the bible, we see that it is full of both that which is consistent with Almighty God and that which is not. Is God the author of confusion! The author of contradiction and deception? IN considering God perhaps each person, wishing for knowledge, imagines God in a flawed manner. For myself God needs to be consistent with certain necessary principles upon which my participation in life is dependant. In this life it seems i am my god, as i may even appear to have the power of life and death of myself. Surely a God worthy of Respect and Honour, a God worthy of Worship, a God worthy of Creatures praise, would forsee the treachery of the unworthy and insert messages into their 'holy books' for the enlightenment of the truth seeker? This seems consistent with the western protestant/roman catholic/judaic scriptures - the bible as you call it. It seems flawed beyond that which the Word of Almighty God could reasonably be. However if one considers that it may be that "God works in mysterious ways", and has inserted a message within scriptures of all peoples and cultures. Perhaps all faiths, all religions, have a light burning for the seeker of knowledge! Or not, in which case reading of scripture remains of value - for the record of human affairs, gives one an insight into the conduct of one's daily life. Live in the present, whether one is living or dying, whether we are to meet with Almighty God betwixt this life and the next, whether there is nothing beyond - at the point of death - it will be the present moment. Consider the difficulties of NASA in determining what if any message to send to possible alien intelligences when they launched a space probe to deep space. How could one possibly communicate with alien beings? How could an Almighty God communicate with humanity? Perhaps thru examining their behaviour, and tailoring the message to suit? Looking at humanities history and present one sees a preponderance of religious, superstitious behaviour. People love this stuff they are entranced by it, they readily submit their reason to the sorcerers of religion, esoterics, and sciences. Would the Almighty God then communicate thru those devices to reach the people within those belief systems? Perhaps the bible is of value, for within we find writings of great beauty and wisdom as well as all the 'bullshit' as some term it. It maybe only one form of many forms of communication Almighty God would use to reach God's creatures. Is the bible simply a medium to deliver the kernel? A seed of truth, sown in one's mind - to direct the seeker of truth and wisdom, on the forward path, ever growing, ever seeking, ever progressing on the road to eternity, an eternity of the present moment - fully aware, fully alive!

Quote time!
"Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?."
-Douglas Adams, from Last Chance to See
"A man didnt understand how televisions work, and was convinced that there must be lots of little men inside the box, manipulating images at high speed. An engineer explained to him about high frequency modulations of the electromagnetic spectrum, about transmitters and receivers, about amplifiers and cathode ray tubes, about scan lines moving across and down a phosphorescent screen. The man listened to the engineer with careful attention, nodding his head at every step of the argument. At the end he pronounced himself satisfied. He really did now understand how televisions work. "But I expect there are just a few little men in there, arent there?"
-Douglas Adams
"Even the sceptical mind must be prepared to accept the unacceptable when there is no alternative. If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family Anatidae on our hands."
-Douglas Adams, Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency
"If on the other hand he went to pay his respects to The Door and it wasn't there... what then? The answer, of course, was very simple. He had a whole board of circuits for dealing with exactly this problem, in fact this was the very heart of his function. He would continue to believe in it whatever the facts turned out to be, what else was the meaning of belief? The Door would still be there, even if the Door was not."
-Douglas Adams, Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency
I"n the beginning, the universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry, and is generally considered to have been a bad move."
-Douglas Adams, The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy
"To illustrate the vain conceit that the universe must be somehow pre-ordained for us, because we are so well-suited to live in it, he [Adams] mimed a wonderfully funny imitation of a puddle of water, fitting itself snugly into a depression in the ground, the depression uncannily being exactly the same shape as the puddle."
-Richard Dawkins, Lament for Douglas
"So what do we do if we get bitten by something deadly, then?" He blinked at me as if I was stupid. "Well what do you think you do?" he said. "You die of course. That's what deadly means."
-Douglas Adams, Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency
"I am an atheist, out and out. It took me a long time to say it. I've been an atheist for years and years, but somehow I felt it was intellectually unrespectable to say one was an atheist, because it assumed knowledge that one didn't have. Somehow it was better to say one was a humanist or an agnostic. I finally decided that I'm a creature of emotion as well as of reason. Emotionally I am an atheist. I don't have the evidence to prove that God doesn't exist, but I so strongly suspect he doesn't that I don't want to waste my time."
-Isaac Asimov, Free Inquiry
"They say that God is everywhere, and yet we always think of Him as somewhat of a recluse."
-Emily Dickinson
"When a religion is good, I conceive it will support itself; and when it does not support itself, and God does not take care to support it so that its professors are obliged to call for help of the civil power, 'tis a sign, I apprehend, of its being a bad one."
- Benjamin Franklin, Letter to Richard Price
"The only person who is a worse liar than a faith healer is his patient."
-Abraham Lincoln
"It is easy to remove the mind from harping on the lost illusion of immortality. The disciplined intellect fears nothing and craves no sugar-plum at the day's end, but is content to accept life and serve society as best it may. Personally I would not care for immortality in the least. There is nothing better than oblivion, since in oblivion there is no with unfulfilled. We had it before we were born, yet did not complain. Shall we whine because we know it will return? It is Elysium enough for me, at any rate."
-H. P. Lovecraft, In Defence of Dagon
"The only excuse for god is that he doesnt exist."
- Friedrieh Wilhelm Nietzsche
"No man who ever lived knows any more about the hereafter ... than you and I; and all religion ... is simply evolved out of chicanery, fear, greed, imagination and poetry."
- Edgar Allan Poe
In religion, What damned error but some sober brow Will bless it, and approve it with a text, Hiding the grossness with fair ornament?
-Shakespeare, The Merchant of Venice Act 3, Scene 2
"Man is a marvelous curiosity he thinks he is the Creator's pet he even believes the Creator loves him; has a passion for him; sits up nights to admire him; yes and watch over him and keep him out of trouble. He prays to him and thinks He listens. Isn't it a quaint idea."
-Mark Twain, Letters from the Earth

<<<<What does he look like>>>> Gimme a break. Does 'horns of baphomet' have any ideas about who or what god is? Or is he another 'oh he's that guy with a long beard' kinda person. Loads of people diss the possibility of God in this forum, yet they are unaware that most religeon seem to base themselves loosely on a God that can be explained far more than they are willing to look into. Most of the athiests are so determined that God doesn't exist that all they do is argue against it and never actually try and understand how it could be possible. It gets to the point where they don't even want a God to exist, just to avoid being wrong.

An infinite God that just happened to arbitrarily exist by fortuitous happenstance in his all powerful state and then creating the universe is less plausible than an infinite oscillating universe of endless big bangs and crunches that just happened to arbitrarily exist.

I see you cognise God as a person whereas my understanding is that God is Spirit, not a corporal person. Re: The Bible - Bulshit or Not
My personal conceptualization of God is a big question mark. If a God force does exist, it is nothing along the lines of the flawed biblical depiction of an anthropomorphic God which is a product of the time in which he was created - which can bee seen in all manmade things and a reflection of human frailty. That God is undoubtably a human construct.
Spinzoa's God is much better. It shares the signature of the universe instead of violating it, manifests itself in nature, and doesn't damn people to an eternal hell over thoughtcrime.

Evidence of Noah's global flood? Well, I'll be darned. Were all those Christian scientists from Leonardo da Vinci and up deluded when they were to forced to admit it was impossible given the geologic evidence?
Sodom and Gomorrah? I do hope you're not referring to that debunked claim a while back about sulfur batches that can be found in many different places but *just happened to be taken as evidence of those cities* because they matched geographically. Reference, please?

Sounds like a worthwhile endeavour, but as you suggest, one needs to apply insight, and genuinely try to get to the core of understanding! That may take time, perhaps an entire lifetime is insufficient, and maybe we will all arrive at different conclusions only to find none of us is right.

sorry, since this post had so many replies i didn't get to read alot of em...but as for the main post,...about 2 years ago i'd agree with you 100% about the bible being bullshit...BUT after studying kabbalah for little over year i discovered that it is writen 'in code'. In fact, alot of kabbalists claim that the whole purpose of kabbalah is soley for learning what the bible 'truley' means..For example: 666, The Great Beast,... is Sunlight...with the seven heads being the colors of the sectrum...there's alot of this in the bible. though, i am sure alot of the text been tampered with over the years. Word has it that the real recorded writings of jesus' teachings have been destroyed...go figure

I'm not talking about the bible code here, i know that's bullshit...but the kabbalah can (in my opinion) help you see some of the nuts and bolts of the texts true meaning...look up 'sacred geometry' and 'jesus 888' on a searh engine if you wanna get a rough idea what im talking about.

Well the truth in history proves god is not real. you see early man also known as homo erectus knew he was going to die sooner or later. so what he did was made up religion this eased the pain of death very much and was followed by other primitave tribes. the early religions said everthing had a spirit which like you said is complete bullshit that is why im an athies.
