Atheism should be renamed Achristianity
Are there atheists here capable of saying more than "God does not exist because the God in the Bible doesnt appeal to me"? If not, go away, youre not atheists, youre just dickheads who dont like Jesus.
Why is Odalism bad? How about Roman paganism? How about Injuns, how fooled were they?
Atheism is so laughable.

I like the way this guy talks. Im sure there are a lot of athiest who do know something about worldly religeons or spirituality. But most of them always use christianity and its holes to base their arguments on. And quite frankly it pisses me off.
God cant exist cos he's so old he would have died by now. I cant wait to hear that one

Yeh Messer, like if God exists, Her existence cannot be justified. Or do you think we should believe that She doesn't exist because you have trouble justifying Her existence. Like you would ever have that ability, especially with the omnipotent God you constantly insist everyone else falsely believes in.

I would have to agree with messer on this one... There is absolutely NO proof of god's existance even after countless years of the masses beliving in him/her/it. But then again who says we could even interperet his messages? Think about it... everything you know you leanred on this one tiny little planet in the giant universe. I see living on earth kind of like living in america... when you live in america you see the world as a fucked up thing, but thats just they way some people live.Maybe becasuse EARTH is really our only influence we have everything all wrong about the rest of the universe.

Generalizing is a human characteristic that helps to seperate us from the beasts and is one of the most successful adaptations that allow for our survival.
If you never applied what you learned about one group to other things (generalize), youd have to learn through trial and error that each individual snake in a species was venomous, or that each individual guy carrying an enemy's head was aggressive. Youd have no concept of a past or a future.
Cows dont generalize.

Also notice the over-generalization on my part. I can't believe you didn't catch it.
Beany spirit of 22 is defiant. defiant was an old name he posted under.
"i don't believe in god because what did noah feed all those animals for 40 days, and he'd have had to have taken every form of plant life.

Very true, i don't believe in god, due to the lack of hard evidence. Atheism is the disbelief of a higher power. Although i will agree that a lot of atheists who post here seem to disbelieve in god because of christanity. But these are personal reasons much like believing in god or (a) higher power(s). Let's keep the definition and how people rationalize their stance seperate.

Re: Atheism should be renamed Achristianity
as a sort of atheist, i normally argue with more christians about religon than anyone else, even though i know as many muslims etc as i do christians. maybe the christian mindset is more defensive/paranoid about their god, and so they feel a greater need to justify Him loudly and often. the christians i know have a special place of loathing in their hearts for atheists, whereas most other religons don't have quite as big a problem. so maybe its the christians, in attacking atheists, who are causing the atheists to attack them more often.

Re: Atheism should be renamed Achristianity
I don't have a particular religion but I do believe in God. I also carry a... dissapointment for most Christians. Now before some of you jump all over me like a pack of wolves let me say a little bit. My problem with Christians stems from the fact that most of them only go to church because they feel like they have to and they talk about God and his Ten Commandments but repeatedly fail to follow them. The Christian religion in whole, is a "good" religion. I don't like the way the Church has distorted some very helpfull information though. And something I really don't get is this, In the Holy Bible God/Jesus says do not build a house to worship the Holy Father in. The church goes directly against this. If I must show the people who don't believe this just say so and i'll find the location of it. There are many problems I can find with the Church like the fact that they managed to record everything that Jesus did exept for a period of thirteen years where he just dissappeared.(He went East) Also the fact that the church has completly left out the Book of Mark(or Mathew) from the Holy Bible. Not to mention 1 or 2 others. You can more than likely find these in seperate books at your local library, I did. Read them and you can plainly see why they have been left out of the bible. They supposedly give the actual teachings of Christ, not just his words. I mean the things he tought his disciples. Anyhow Nuff said.

Yep. Like I said, and as was the intent of this thread, their arguments are almost always based on deeply embedded Christian concepts of God: perfection, omnipotence, omniscience. Its ironic that they ever took this bullshit to be literal but most Christians never did. Totse atheists, and nearly all atheists under a certain age, base their entire worldview on not believing Joshua could have tumbled the walls of Jericho by just leading an army around it.

It isn't just the Christian concept of God. Judaism and Islam have the same kind of God. How many major world religions are there? Judaism, Islam, Christianity, Hinduism, and Buddhism. Are there anymore? More than half with the same kind of god.

Re: Atheism should be renamed Achristianity
Buddhism was not originally a religion, it was a philosophy. People tried/try to emulate what Boddhidahrma was/is so that they could be like him, "Enlightened." Also I don't know what you know about the Hindu religion but it is has some close links with Christianity if you look for them but on the surface they are very different. As I'm sure everyone knows, Christians believe in one supreme god who is the only true god. While Hindus believe in many different ASPECTS of God and pray to different aspects/gods/demi-gods depending on where they are brought up and what they do in life and what it is they seek, while at the same time recognizing that all these different aspects/gods are of one god who is named Brahman. Essentially saying that there is only one god with many different aspects.

"Totse atheists, and nearly all atheists under a certain age, base their entire worldview on not believing Joshua could have tumbled the walls of Jericho by just leading an army around it."
So what?!? It is their way of saying they don't believe in a god. It maybe retarded, but it is a rational.
This by no means changes the definition of atheism.
God is a higher power, and therefore if you don't believe in him you can claim your atheist. Even though you could be wrong in your claim. Cause the definition states a disblief in higher powers. All kinds of gods.
I assume most other atheist will say that they don't believe in other gods as well, egyptain, roman, greek, myan, hindu, etc. Im sure its just not the christian god.
Its just it goes something like this: "Yeah im an atheist". "Oh so you don't believe in god?" "Yeah thats right."
you never hear: "Yeah im an atheist". "Oh so you don't believe in osiris?" "Yeah thats right."
Thats because that question is never asked. Its always assumed that the only divine power is god. So we get to arguing about god. and some smart ass tries to rename atheism to achristanity when it emcompasses more than just a disbelief in god.

But they base their identity as an atheist on the unlikelihood of the reality of the tales of the Bibles and its god. They say things like, "How come God lets people suffer if hes so merciful, I have to conclude he doesnt exist." That is a solid majority of Totse atheists and an overwhelming percentage of other atheists. They almost never say- "Christianity kinda sucks, they misunderstand the divine." They assume no old bearded man with stone tablets and pearly gates= no god, and thus, there atheism is nothing more than a feeble minded achristianity.

Re: Atheism should be renamed Achristianity
I think most atheists know that it means more than not believing in the god of Christianity. I believe the reason they attack it so much is a combination of Christians attacking them so they retaliate, and because it is the easiest religion to talk about. It probably is the biggest religion. It is in the U.S. And this website is from the U.S. Since it is so big so many people know about it.
Even if the atheist knows a lot about ancient Egyptian Gods for example, who's gonna care and have a debate with them about it? With Christianity you'll expect you're gonna get some debate. On this forum not really though. On this forum it is better if you're just going to debate about a regular general creator god. Those atheists that come by and start right off complaining about christianity, well, they may have not known that there won't be a lot of christians on this site. Although that is pretty dumb of them.

Well surley by now they should realise that a lot of people who use totse believe in god but dont believe in religeon. 'Spirituality' I guess the word is. There are shit loads of people who are just 'spiritual' And since there only comments are only ever against christian beliefs, its only natural that we point it out. And now we have pointed it out why can't they give non-christianic arguments? They cant.

If this is their sole belief then they are, yes, 'achristian'. And not properly defining themselves.
But I'm a true atheist, seeing that i don't believe in all forms of gods. Simply due to lack of proof.
I find myself arguing against 'god' on this forum a lot. But it always ends up being someones own definition of god. This is fine i just wish we wouldn't use the term god, it has too many religious connitations(sp) behind it. Seeing how most people here are more spiritual, than religious. As beany so kindly pointed out.

hahahahahahahaha, very clever defiant. Do you want a cookie?
I don't believe in god because their is no proof. I was asked lostmind, if he really believed in god, and if you would have looked at the context i was refering to the christan god. Which was my real question. And so yes you can believe in god but not a christain god, based on religion. Which is what the christian qualifer does to that statment.
Next time try leaving my statements in context.

That sure implies your idea of God is the one of the Bible. Heres a recap of the context for people not familiar with the argument. LostMind says he believes in god, and you respond by saying

It didn't exist as a result of something. Evil was created the second good was created. They define eachother. Atheism is a stagnant mild between the two extremes.

nevernight, that was in response to the topic's title. not the previous post.
it wasn't a reply. it was a new idea. technically it was intelligent due to the fact that it was based upon rational thought.
your response however wasn't.
Messer,
Then the same goes for 'good.' Hamlet said it best when he said, "Nothing is either good nor bad, but thinkng makes it so."
Saying that you wouldn't use it to describe anything means nothing due to the fact that you still can't prove your own existance.

what really makes me laugh, messer, is that humans have all the doors open to them. Athiesm, to me, sounds like the most horribly awry type of belief.
If you live your life like there is a God, and you believe it whole heartedly, you've lost nothing, and gained everything.
if you live your life like there isn't, then you've lost everything and gained nothing with the belief that there isn't anything at all to gain. thus, being in deep shit.

Most "atheists" rag on Christianity more than other religions because most people including atheists know more about Christianity than say Roman Paganism or Odalism. Me i just find the whole "God" thing hard to believe, Odalism, Christianity, Santa or any other type of god people might conger up. Not that means they are wrong but it sure doesnt mean theyre right.

I know. But there are finer points almost unique to Christianity that atheists base their scorn of religion on, such as original sin. Most other religions are a lot more compatible with atheistic worldviews, but they do not concern themselves with them and would instead rather argue why Christianity is bad, thus, atheism is more like Achristianity.

Re: Atheism should be renamed Achristianity
Indeed. Moreover, you seem to think my only motive to assert that God is inexistent is the lack of proof to corroborate said existence. I have more evidence than that. Theism itself bases itself on a series of rather preposterous suppositions, atheism doesn't. Theism assumes the only justification for the Universe's existence is the existence of a God that created it. It assumes that the adequacy of said explanation makes it the only valid possibility. In any case the question would arise, who created God? And theists would answer that God created himself, which is a most ludicrous notion.
