to say that religion has slowed down development is also a pile of shit. it was the only thing holding societies together for most of the history of people. if it wasn't for the fear inherantly placed on people by religion they would never have agreed on anything. (i know they still don't but it kept the social order in check).

Religion granted authority to leaders so they can get done what needs to be done.

People who do not acknowledge the existence of a higher power are stupid by definition. It means they have either experienced nothing that man cannot reproduce, or have and have thought otherwise. Neither is a path to any intelligence.

What counots as a higher power?

Death? Love? A creator? Hunger? Natural Law?

I am aware that if I do not know it, that my lack of knowledge on the subject does not faucilitate it's non-existence. There is more in this universe than we see day-to-day and experience with our 5 senses, I have had scientifically impossible events happen in my life and some with other people so they could confirm I was not delusional because they experienced it aslo.

It is because of this that I do not rule out things that many people deem impossible off the bat, when some are in fact very possible and very real. Personal experience is a very effective teacher.

No, it means we don't instantly assume anything we don't understand comes from a higher power. We try to learn it to figure it out. People who just don't understand and attribute it to a higher power learn less (because they don't think about it) about it. Intellegence is about soacking/finding info and applying that knowledge.

Plus 93 percent of religious people are so because their parents were. The other 7 percent are real idiots who had an accident or other big thing in their lives, and decided to desperately hang on to religion of some kind, because the world just got too realistic for them.
