this has been pissing me off for some time now. there are thousands of gods out there and religions, why do chrisitans insist that they are right, and call other religions false? IMHO, i think that all those people practicing this religious bull-$hit are just afraid of death and they want a comfort blanket.

i used to go to church and support christianity, but then (when i grew up) i started thinking.. how do i know im right? every religion is different, how do i know wich one is the right one? if each one was right there would be millions of heavens and hells. this just didnt make sense.
also, the devil is supposed to be the one who tempts us with all sorts of wonderful things. heaven is a temptation for those who are dying (those who belive in christianity) so how are we to know that it may be wrong..
pagans (spelling?) worshiped many gods. and since the "One true all mighty" is a jelous god, why didnt he just kill off the pagans and their gods? same with the egyptans, they worshiped tons of gods. Ra was like the zues of the gods. then there was Isis, Anubis, Osiris. and many others. how are we to know who is right or wrong? same with the greeks. they were similar to the egyptians but they were more advanced (heh heh)

You seem to be asking the right questions and, seeing as how you are open to the answers(assuming there are some) then I think this puts you in front. If God exists and, she sees fit to reveal the answers some how then, at least you are open and not dependant on the opinion of others to relay what she would have you know. Not that having a guide can't be useful it's just that religion to us plebs is way too dogmatic.

Religion is basicly a 'comfort blanket' for when you die. some of it tries to teach you history, but if you realy sit and think about what (i.e.) christianity says about the creation and universe, nothing adds up. I think the bible states somewhere that God is a perfect god... take adam and eve.. they were not perfect.
another thing i would like to know is if god created adam and eve, and adam and eve had 2 sons, Cain and Abel, and Cain killed Abel, and Cain was exiled to some land, where the hell do all these people come from? i thouht that god only made 2 people..

It seems belief in god is based on faith. Faith is a belief without proof. Therefore given the faith of many gods you are just as right as people who believe in one god, because both your beliefs are based in faith.

of course adam and eve were not perfect. they were made in Gods image. not nessicarily with God's qualities.

You are on the best path I have seen people follow so far. You might want to look into Daoism, it made some points I found valuable in my quest for general knowledge. I posted on {To all religious people on this BBS by Messerschmidt} you might want to take a look, it was just a little rant, but reading can't hurt you (if you do it right that is).

Adam and Eve were the first people of the tribe who wrote the Bible. The Bible speaks of others who lived beyond Eden that were created with the animals. Adam's sons mixed with them. This is not at all rare in mythology.

but honestly, i perfer to stay away from religion. i dont need to worship anything to make me feel safe.

Gandhi once said "I am Hindu, I am Muslim, I am Christian" but not in that order, I cant remember what the order was.

Hinduism isnt dogmatic like that... sure they believe their religion, but they arent crazy about it like Muslims and Christians tend to be.

Jews believe their religion a lot too... but they never started any Crusades or anything. They arent as bad as the 'leading 2' either.

Plus:

Taoism/Daoism isnt a religion. It's a philosophy. Well I dont think it's a religion at least.

Buddhism is cool too. I think I'll stick with agnosticism...

Although I make no claim to authoritative knowledge of religions, I perceive them thus:
Religious documentation is quite a twisted chain. Beginning with the initial epiphany, it must then be presented in a manner relevant to whatever indigenous culture.
Some things are just common sense strategies for the development and survival of civilization,but the deeper truths always elude description...
