This sucks
With OneFineFeller gone, the Galileans lost their shining prophet and have escaped to the catacombs again. Now who can we throw to the lions? Why cant we have an educated conversation without the inclusion of Christian stupidity? Lets talk about something. What about the duty of man. What do you think our duty is, if we even have one. What about the roots of your faith...What makes something right to you? If anyone says, I do, thats unacceptable. You got your idea from something or someone, thats undeniable, so you cant even claim you aer the source of right and wrong. That should get something going.

Re: This sucks
right or wrong doesn't exist,
it's a concept created by man, and a concept manipulated by man.

By labeling certain ideas as unacceptable from the start, you make the debate you're looking for pointless.
But, someone will probably take the bait anyway.

Re: This sucks
Yes it is. There's no deity or central force that determines peoples' consciences and distates what's right and right. Right and wrong is completely reletive.

Re: This sucks
i believe there is a central deity and don't believe in right or wrong or good and evil.
and i don't think he punishes on those terms either; don't think he punishes at all;
when faced with eternal damnation i'm sure one person would face god and say, i would never have done these things had you not made it possible for me to do so. for if you truly loved and cared for me you would not make it possible for me to get hurt even throughout eternity. i am just a testament to your failure.
that's not the god i believe in.

Re: This sucks
We are all responsible for our own actions
That's why the devil concept is so appealing, people like the idea of not taking responsibility for their actions.

Re: This sucks
Everyone... living is seperate realities... right or wrong... is but a small part of your perception... the thinking... the hopeing... the struggle to accept, or be accepted...
be happy... accept the inevidable... stare your own fears in the eyes.... and laugh.
One persons reality is another persons comfort.

Re: This sucks
I think the concept of right and wrong applies on an individual basis. What's right to one person is wrong to the person who's being "wronged". For example, let's say someone gets their car stolen. To them, someone has done a deed that is detrimental to their person, and therefore the person who stole the car is wrong. However, to the thief, who has a completely different mindset, stealing the car might just have been business as usual, and therefore is right.

Re: This sucks
I don't believe in "right" and "wrong" or "good" and "evil". I think they're outdated concepts. Concepts created simply for control. I believe in ethical, and inethical. Doing what is ethical, I believe is doing whats best for yourself, and your community, and I believe that what is ethical and inethical can be decided logically.

Re: This sucks
defiant exile, you asked 'What about the duty of man'?
my view now;
if my genes were to survive me, then my duty would be to do care for the carrier of my genes when possible, i.e. look after my kids would be my duty, I think
well, me a product of an abusive broken home, a survivor of multiple broken relationships, have decided that my genes have no place in mankinds future...
no duty, therefore, except to myself.

Re: This sucks
Youre very right in saying you have a duty to your posterity. That you cant is irrelevant, if its right for you, great, its not for me, or my children, which you admit is the basis of duty. Aw, you survived broken relationships? Haha, who hasnt? There is a right and wrong, the lesser and more fringe elements are relative, but the essence of it is, if it leads to the death of your kind, its wrong. We are alive. Life has always been designed, inherent in its definition, to produce and defend more life.

Re: This sucks
"but the essence of it is, if it leads to the death of your kind, its wrong"
but where must we assume the boundary of "your kind" lies?
I mean, is 'your kind',
1. human beings, all of us, or 2. all life on this planet, or what?
I feel that we have to include ALL living things in that duty to protect life that you imply. Not just the people around us.
(Not that you'll care about my opinion, if you already think I'm stupid)

Re: This sucks
Thats right, I wont. Humans evolved as carnivorous hunters, we are a territorial species with the DNA to see Us as people of our Tribe and Them as the ones who compete for space across the river. Its in our blood. Even more ridiculous than including all of humanity in our drive for preservation is including all life. Do wolves weep over the death of deer? We have no duty to preserve anything, only ourselves. Because we are connected to other life, and dependent on their cycles, it is convenient to keep them here, but it is not out of a higher moral calling, it is self-interest.
