Default You are here o

To the right a little?

Or perhaps to the left.

Where do you stand in space and time, the answer is right here.

Life is entirely spent moving in and out of memories of a dream previously dreamt.

So what is your religious belief?

From what i have observed, there are several types of religion, that most people seem to join together like some kind of hybrid plant to make their own merge of beliefs, ideaology and individualism.
Of course these ideals change throughout an individuals life, but many of the fundamental ideas remain the same.
Old beliefs evovle to new ones for example when someone is young they may think they do what is right simply because it is right, or they may do what is wrong, simply to do what is wrong. As they grow and the mind ripens often this behaviour changes to a more formed attitude. A poor child may think that life has dealt them a rough hand, that society is against them and they feel rejected and therefore reject society aiming at a rebel non-conformist view of life. Conversely, this child, had it been the child who did the right thing, they may see life as a challenge and strive to succeed.
This is what an individual may think as a type one person.
A type 2 individual may see oppertunities at either face value and not read into the situation or they may see the opposite, reading into every situation and experience.

What has this got to do with religion?

Well religion is very closely associated withthe inner belief system, any critical decision made by an individual can gauge their religious beliefs, as religious beliefs are: "a system of belief in a spiritual, or supernatrual power."

Arguable, that this supernaturual power is within oneself, that the higher being we all search for is not just one's higher self, but a collaboration of all human-kinds higher self.
We look to dreams and premonitions for guidance, and the answer is within ourself.

Simple to come to this conclusion really, when you look at how many, catholics, for example, will not have read the bible, and their beliefs, while largely shaped around catholic framework and the ten commandments, will include their own idealology.
Their own moral value system, their own exceptions, and they will like any other religious member of any religion or denomonation, break these lawas that they hold so close. Why? its human nature.

From this assumption that religious people have their own religious, moral, and ethical belief system, it is viable to hypothosize that each and every individual sees their own higher knowledge, as such, (by this i mean a sense of something greater than the consious mind, intageble and difficult to reach through linear thought) and therefore, we are our own god, remember im speaking fundamentally here.

Because this belief in our higher self is fundamental, a catalyst is needed to express it, this catalyst is religion.
A set religion helps us act a certain way, while relying on others, humans need to rely on others, it brings a sense of belonging and also in turn a sense of feeling needed.

Different religions are but different elements of catalysts for this type of thoughts, but i am not saying that all people should be drawn to all religions, there are obviously significant cultural ties associated with different religoins, and the all important eastern vs western philosophy. By this easternVwestern i mean that few middle aged men who live the american dream would be all too quick to embrace buddhist spiritual laws.

A personal experience is probably suitable here, however im not going to recount my more personal thoughts on this topic as it would be rather contradicotry to what i have written above.
I welcome everybody who reads this however to post a personal experience or any kind of input on this topic

have a nice day

Great, yeah, that all sounds very sound. no pun intended.

My personal gripes with religious experiences are that they are beyond reason, and I have a strong faith in my own reasoning.

There's something I would like someone to explain to me..

Eg, I'm a christian/jew/muslim and I'm having doubts about faith. I ask God to help, a sign. A possible coinsidence occurs, but I have enough faith to believe it's a sign, and not a coinsidence? Is that how it works?

C'mon christians, tell me how it works.

'Cause personally, I asked for signs that break the accepted laws of physics. And now I'm some sort of agnostic/atheist/humanist.

i don't need a sign, but then again i'm not christian.

i don't run around trying to get more people to notice me,

why would i ask it, expect it, or even demand it from my god.

he shows me in other ways, yes even scientifically explained ways, that make me just go damn, that's fucking incredible.

there must be something more to this than meets the eye.

and that's all i need.

The sign is what you make of it.

If you feel it could be a sign then it does constitute a sign, but then again if you put it down to coincidence then it is just that.

Aldous Huxley suggested in his 'doors of perception' that everyone has a demi-subconcious mind which he called Mind At Large. In this theory, he asserted that everyones mind is not designed to bring information in, but to shut information out, which can be constued into the fact that the truth about yourself is within yourself.

As i said above, religion is but a cataylst to express these conceptions.

and lost, that you dont ask for a sign but yet you see it, then this is just further evidence in your higher self...
somewhat contradictory but true...

huxley's an underestimated genius

"In this theory, he asserted that everyones mind is not designed to bring information in, but to shut information out, "

they actually found the part of your brain that tells you where your body ends and the world begins. it can be triggered to turn off, one of the ways is with acid, and it also explains the similarity of religious experiences between different religions.

they don't know what triggers it naturally though, whereas acid and meditation are capable, some people it just happens to, these are usually the people that claim spiritual experience.

what i'm saying in a long way is, is that it just might be a religious experience when triggered naturally to feel a part of everything and that there is something more.

Of course! If not, homo-sapiens would have gone insane thousands of generations ago!
I reckon, although I'm not trained in this sorta stuff.. that higher reasoning developed first (after we were chimp type creatures) and then other (like what you just mentioned) developed after to help us cope with this. I may be way off the mark, but it seems to explain why the missing link is so hard to find.. because that evolutionary stage was so quick, because so many went insane and died in the development of the mechanism to cope with higher reasoning.

*lol*

Plausable enough, I hope.

Lostmind, do you think being 100% content with your surroundings constitutes as a religouse experience? Theres very few times where i dont feel in total control and complete bliss these days.

My god is the god of coincidence, the god of electricity, the god of positive and negitive. Good bad, male female, dead alive.

i've never had the religious experience i spoke of,

at least not naturally. i've felt the connecting experience acid can give, and it's a mind numbing feeling.

an insignificant part of a whole.

i feel the same way though, total control and bliss over my surroundings, don't think it's a religious experience though,

i think when you have one, you are 100% sure what it was.
