Re: Eye for a eye
Id personally go with turn the other cheek .
Many people assume this to be a direct contradiction of law . But this is misunderstood . Jesus says the entire law for human interaction is based on treat others as you want to be treated . Which if you think about it , is the same as eye for an eye . But that because we are all guilty of weakness & error , we should forgive others so as to be forgiven .
we are all naturally capable of mistakes , so forgiveness is for the greater part a better solution than faulting people for all their errors . When we likewise are guilty of not being perfect . Ultimate justice is best left with God . Where in our daily interactions , forgiveness & love helps resolve the evil & confusion we all suffer from .

Re: Eye for a eye
Neither. You can have a fitting natural reaction, instead of a programmed, social one like eye for an eye or even sadder, haha, forgiving. Do you think forgiveness is natural? You think your children are gonna come home after being beaten up by a bully and expect you to tell them, "The bully just neesd love. Forgive him." Haha, theyre just gonna come home with their other eye blackened. The natural reaction is not eye for an eye either, its just to neutralize a threat or seek vengeance. Vengeance isnt usually eye for an eye. If someone rapes your daughter, you dont think to rape their daughter, you kill them. If someone kills your family, you dont kill their family, you kill them (Well, it depends how involved the family was obviously)

Re: Eye for a eye
>>>>What one is right eye for a eye.Or turn the other cheek?<<<<
It depends mainly on the fact if you believe in the Judaeo/Christian God in the first place, but since you asked the question I'll assume you do. Secondly, it depends if you believe in Jesus Christ or not. If you don't it is eye for an eye. If you do, it is turn the other cheek, but contrary to popular belief that doesn't mean you turn your cheek every time someone wrongs you. God doesn't wnat you to be a push over.
>>>>The natural reaction is not eye for an eye either,<<<<
You are interpreting it to literally. It doesn't mean you break my finger and I break your finger. It means you cause me pain and I cause you pain. The severity of the reprisal is determined by the original offense. Eye for an eye is, simply, veangence. It is a natural reaction, with a few basic guidelines to keep people from reaking undeserving veangence. Don't argue it away because it is in biblical verse.

Re: Eye for a eye
First let me clarify that the "eye for an eye" principle is just. Christians have two jurisdictions in relation to this passage. Legally, for example, we are not to sue another "brother". However, we can still sue a a non-christian. They are still under the law and not under grace. Yes we are to love our enemies and do good to those who harm us. We are to turn the other cheek as it relates to persecution for our faith. For who knows if the perpentraters will burn one's conscious and have remorse over one's actions? If were responded with force, will we be able to win our enemies over?
Let's clarify what forgiveness is and what it is not. Matter of fact, I will address it in a new subject for further detail. I am going to go pull some of my records and I will git back with you.

Something tell me, the weakest possible reaction to any confrontation will be the Christian definition of virtue. Do you people know what Acquiescent means? Lets see how acquiescent the definition is.

Re: Eye for a eye
maybe it takes strength to have self-control... to restrain oneself from one's "natural" (as you would put it) tendencies.
ps: im not saying its right to do this, because im almost sure you would say "but why would anyone want to wander from their natural state?" , i am saying it takes more strength to do this..

Re: Eye for a eye
No it doesnt. Its very easy to deny yourself and to hide. Its very difficult to admit who and what you are in a world of madness and denial. Its very easy to say, I forgive, and very difficult to say, Odds are against me but fuck it, he deserves a stab between the ribs. Its easy to say "I cant do that, Im better than that." Its hard to say, "This is what Im suppsed to do, and it is going to hurt." Its easy to say "God will fix them when they die. Its not my place to bring justice." Its hard to say, "They are wronging people, and I will stop them." It is easy to say, "God thinks killing is wrong. Fuck killing people." Its hard to say, "These invaders will surely rape and gut my wife...Bring me my sword." Its easy to say, "Fear not the famine, we are in Gods hand." Its hard to say, "Fuckin drought. Son, help me dig a shadoof." Its easy to say "Oh yeah?! Well see whose happy when were dead." Its hard to say "This is the realm I am part of, this is my existence. I am Man. I am responsible for me and my kind now." Who told you its easy to be strong and hard to be weak? Dont listen to anything they say ever again.

Re: Eye for a eye
Exile you have this ignorant perception of Christians.
>>>>Its very easy to say, I forgive,<<<< and very difficult to say, Odds are against me but fuck it, he deserves a stab between the ribs.<<<<
Yeah it is exceptionally easy to say I forgive but to actually do it is difficult.
>>>>and very difficult to say, Odds are against me but fuck it, he deserves a stab between the ribs.<<<<
What are you talking about it is just as easy to say he deserves a stab in the ribs. In what situation do you decide someone needs to get gigged in the ribs. Choose your battles wisely a life of wasted violence leads to a knife in the back when you are not looking.
>>>>Its easy to say "I cant do that, Im better than that." Its hard to say, "This is what Im suppsed to do, and it is going to hurt." Its easy to say "God will fix them when they die. Its not my place to bring justice." Its hard to say, "They are wronging people, and I will stop them."<<<<
Veangence and Forgiveness are equally easy. Having the balls to actually do either is difficult.
>>>>It is easy to say, "God thinks killing is wrong. Fuck killing people." Its hard to say, "These invaders will surely rape and gut my wife...Bring me my sword."<<<<
Are you kidding it easy to state things when they are true if people are invading they are not coming to spread flowers about the place. Finding the courage to go actually go out into battle field when you don't have to is difficult. If Christians followed killing is wrong to the T then there would be none left on the planet now.
>>>>Its easy to say, "Fear not the famine, we are in Gods hand." Its hard to say, "Fuckin drought. Son, help me dig a shadoof."<<<<
God helps those who help themselves.
>>>>Its hard to say "This is the realm I am part of, this is my existence. I am Man. I am responsible for me and my kind now."<<<<
It is real difficult to state the obvious. I commend all masters of the obvious.
You have a vague grasp of the Bible and Christians thought.

Re: Eye for a eye
>>>Yeah it is exceptionally easy to say I forgive but to actually do it is difficult.<<<<
Very much so. Why does that make it right? Its impossible for anyone except the victors for a reason.
>>>>What are you talking about it is just as easy to say he deserves a stab in the ribs.<<<<
I know. Thats the thing. Because all of Christian morality is internal, anyone can say anything and feel the opposite. Because sayin he should die demands action, thats not true. Obviously its easy to say anything, obviously, I was talking about doing.
>>>>In what situation do you decide someone needs to get gigged in the ribs. Choose your battles wisely a life of wasted violence leads to a knife in the back when you are not looking.<<<<
Id trade my life for a lot of things. If someone killed my wife and the only way to fell them was by killing myself with them, Ciao me.
>>>Veangence and Forgiveness are equally easy. Having the balls to actually do either is difficult.<<<<
I know. Obviously Im talking about action.
>>>>Are you kidding it easy to state things when they are true if people are invading they are not coming to spread flowers about the place. Finding the courage to go actually go out into battle field when you don't have to is difficult.<<<<,
I know. Much more than lying to yourself and those around you about pacifism, understanding, and mercy.
>>>>If Christians followed killing is wrong to the T then there would be none left on the planet now.<<<,
I know. Because Christianity is denatured, it has to betray itself to survive.
>>>God helps those who help themselves.<<<<
Thanks. Maybe since you just did something yourself, GOd didnt give a shit.
>>>>It is real difficult to state the obvious. I commend all masters of the obvious.<<<
What I said comparing the Christian basis of morality with the humanist is nothing at all obvious. If you place the judgement of all your conduct with God, Obviously, youre not agreeing with what I said, so why are you being such a sarcastic asshole? What would Jesus do?
>>>>You have a vague grasp of the Bible and Christians thought.<<<<
Nah.

Re: Eye for a eye
So you admit that the acts of forgiveness and veangence are equally difficult, I'm staisfied on that point.
>>>>Because Christianity is denatured<<<<
Isn't it possible that one's nature could be that of Christian virtues?
>>>>it has to betray itself to survive.<<<<
It is not thou shalt not kill it is thou shalt not murder. It is not betraying itself.
>>>>What I said comparing the Christian basis of morality with the humanist is nothing at all obvious.<<<<
I fear it was, but maybe not to all.
>>>>If you place the judgement of all your conduct with God,<<<<
So if you are Christian you neglect your resposibility to humanity?
>>>>What would Jesus do?<<<<
Point out your mistakes in your one sided interpretations of the Bible, but I am not really sure what he would do.
>>>>Nah.<<<<
Yeah.
