Cycles in history
This is something weird I found out in school. Let's devide western history from 1000 BC to 2001 AD into slices of 500 years.
We have 1000 to 500 BC, the time of greec mythology, where religion and man's relationship with God was important. It was a spiritual age.
We then have 500 BC to 1 AD, where philisophy, government (Democraties in Greece and Rome), and man's relationship with each other took predominance over religion. It was an intellectual age.
From 1 AD to 501 AD, we have the Roman empire, with it's games at the circus and it's huge orgies where satisfieng man's needs and wants was more important than governments. It was a sensual age.
From 501 AD to 1001 AD, we have a barbaric age, where everything was destroyed.
Now here's where it gets interesting:
From 1001 AD to 1501 AD, we have the christian church taking the power in europe and where man's relationship with god is once again made important. It's another spiritual age.
From 1501 AD to 2001 AD, we have the start of ideas like democracy in the United States and France and where idiological ideas like communism and capitalism are important. It's another intellectual age.
That means that our western society works in a cycle of 2000 years and that we are now entering a sensual age were fuffiling our desires are the most important. But what about in 500 years, when an age of barbarism will take over our society?
