Default Lutheranism and Catholicism

There isn't much difference between Lutheranism and Catholicism. the major difference, though, in fact is the creation story. now, i go a catholic high school and are catholic. but i cannot just believe the story of creation! i mean c'mon?! now i know the story of what the catholics think happened thank you...adam and eve had 2 sons but then how did all the other people get here?! their two sons couldn't of had sex with eve b/c then the children they produce would be deformed. i for one, believe in the big bang theory (evolution by science), but then i read in my theology book how that can be true related and is tied into the catholic teachings! i don't think this is what the scientists wanted! i told my mom and she said if i believed in that then i don't believe in God! this is why i think i want to become a Lutherian...i tried telling my theology teacher who is a priest and he said he'd answer it when we got onto that topic...well when we did i asked him and he did everything but answer it i find it useless to tell people how i feel. my one friend understands who also goes to my school but that's because she's Lutherian...does anyone else know what i mean and where i'm comin' from?

Before you ask any of the other questions, ask yourself, why do you need to be part of an organized religion?

From what i've heard, protestant chritians like lutherians take the teachings even more to heart that the catholics so maybe it isn't such a good idea.

WTF ???
I just have to say. I was raised for the most part in a lutherian school. I am NOT a lutherian now or a Christian by any means. I had meny friends who were catholics. Over all, catholics are more ritualistic. I also need to say, Anyone who does not belive in some higher power, be that God, Goddess, or whatever you want to call it; must be blind, ignorant , or just overly rebellious.

I actually believe in the Big Bang theory. I didn't at first, because it only seemed to lead me to more questions like what banged? Where did the stuff that banged come from? Where did the Big Bang take place? and since is banged in a place how did that place get there? The questions never end. But, in the Bible where it states "and let there be light", I can believe that that might be the actual Big Bang theory right in there. Thus leading the the Evoloution debate. My kid brother and I have been arguing over this forever. I believe in evoloution and he believes in the Bible. I explained to him that they have artifacts and all of that jazz, but he still doesn't agree with me. But, that doesn't mean I don't believe in the Bible either. It states in the Bible that God created us in His own image. So, a lot of people (including my kid brother) believe that we looked like we do today back at the dawn of time when God created the Earth (The Big Bang occurred). But, we know as fact that just one hundred years ago the average hieght of a woman was 4"9 and the average hieght for a man was 5"4. We're getting taller. Also, most people aren't born with 32 teeth any more; since we have no need for our wisdom teeth anymore, people just don't grow them and our jaws are getting narrower. So, if people looked different a mere hundred years ago, they certainly must've looked a lot different at the dawn of time and isn't it a bit presumptious to assume was Gods image is anyways? I've discussed my theory that all things are made up of the same material in a basic sense, and the material is light. Light vibrations all moving at different wavelengths and patterns, faster or slower and light is true life in it's essence, which is what I believe is Gods true image. Therefore, if Gods true image is light and we were created in His own image, we could've looked like anything. We could've been trilobytes. We could've been cavemen or bacteria ooze, monkies, fish. It doesn't matter, it's all the same image on a basic scale. Anyways, I'll quit boring everyone now and go away.

Cheers,
Lost

The thing people fail to see is that there is room for both. There is no reason why God could not use big bang and evoloution in the process of creation. It does not have to be one sided. I belive in both. I think science has proved it's point and I think God is the source of that evoloution. Creation is an on going process. It's still happening to this day. The proof is in the fact that things do indeed evolve. Thus Creation and evoloution go hand in hand.

Okay nyarl, maybe Chatolics are more ritualistic in their worship but in general, they don't take the opinions of the church as their own, unlike many protestants.

Xero, you're a dumb ass. Did you even read the questions I posed or where you too busy being an ass? You didn't answer any of the questions...

No. 1: If the Big Bang occurred in "space" then what was "space" and WHERE was "space"?

No. 2: If it was a chemical explosion what were the chemicals that exploded and where did they come from?

Now, all you told me was what I had already said I had a question for.

If you can answer those questions with an actually ANSWER, I'd agree that you have some credibility. Until then... you're just an ass.

first;

the big bang has nothing at all to do with evolution.

secondly the creation story in the bible is remarkably scientifically accurate.

first:the heaven and the earth(a spiralling array of dust and debris from a newly born star)
second:the earth was without form; water and land were seperated(the earth coalesced through gravity making a huge rock; still spiralling debris and gases formed an atmosphere of mostly carbon dioxide; where liquid water could be stable; and still very dark)
third:light; as the dust settled back to earth(back to earth?) the skies cleared revealing the sun.
fourth: plant life(being mostly co2 no animal life would survive on land; plants had to take in the co2 and give out o2 for animals to survive)
fifth:animal life; plants would eventually die with no co2 replenishment.
sixth:man, everything in place for him; food and a stable environment.

to an observer on earth it's remarkably accurate;

and full of how did they know's.

and anybody with a first grade education can notice that it didn't happen in exactly six days with no light til the third to judge days.

(fucking aol shortcuts to dorky smiley pictures)

Ok, before I say anything, I want to say I am an atheist, but I have a slight understanding of religion. The reason which any people who follow the bible will not agree with "evolution" or anything not written in the bible is proverbs 30:5, which reads.. "Every word of God is flawless"... So if anything in the bible is not true the whole bible is not true.

Ok, but do the two theories say the same thing? Not really. First if you add up all the dates in the bible the earth comes out to be about 6300 years old (I think). This disagrees with evolution and the big bang. Genesis 1:2 says, "the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters." According to the big band theory there was a large continuous plasma, called space, before, and during, the bang, not H20.

dood there is no such thing as organized religion, the bible sasy that we are suposed to be as one...thus there is only one way, pure biblical christianity....the church does no tonly consist of the people in a building but of all those that r born again, in the world not just in one community...so the aurgument of catholism and luthernism (forgive the spelling deficncy!) is one of pointless debate that will lead no where but more meaningless driblle.

God Bless...peace out
