Politics: Left, Right, and Center National, state, regional, and local politics. Who's doing what to whom, and what you can do about it. How-to-get-action messages are encouraged. "How the government fucked up my life" stories are encouraged. Sharing new methods for cheating on taxes is encouraged. Sample "letters to congresscritters" are encouraged. Apathy and "I can't do anything" posts are discouraged. Left, right, centrist, or any other form of political-economic systems are all up for discussion. Be prepared to defend yourself, or at least have a good line of bullshit ready. Extensive quoting of economists and philosophers is frowned upon. Default Canada and Australia should feed the world

Now we can try again since the topic is Canada and Australia.

Explain to me why ANY country should have the responsibility to 'feed the world'. You seemed to think it was America's problem and when I asked if the same rules applied to Canada and Australia, you came back with this:

Default Re: Canada and Australia should feed the world

the topic in hand was America, and i merely mentioned what America could do for the good of man kind. That was my counter argument to everyone being jealous of it.

I will still stick with that.

I never once mentioned that it was USA's Duty to feed the planet. But if you would take the time to read what i said then you would see that i said

"America has enough food to feed the rest of the World yet Americans are still starving"

i cant vouch for this being the exact quote but i know it is pretty close.
Now for someone as Apt as you Nox i would at least expect you to decipher that i see Americas Duty as far as food distribution goes is to feed other Americans, that is it.

I chose my words carefully when i said this, and i am now going to make sure that there were no misinterpretations.

-"The end product of this is that i never said America should feed the rest of the world but if they have enough food to do so then they can at least smite the hunger in their own country with this surplus amount of Goods."-

Finally i think i will speak for my Country when i say our social security, social workers and civil servants play the part of the carers to those who need it, and although it is slow, our National health service beats the American system.

Your Turn Mr.Nox (i know you are waiting to strike )
--------------------------------------------
EDIT:
--------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------
"i feel that America does have enough for all the rest of the world, but will not share it at all with (at least) other Americans let alone the rest of the world"
--------------------------------------------

This is the exact quote you seem to dwell on i see. Now you see that i undermine the rest of the world when i say "(at least) other Americans" So remember that i am putting this here as a reason that the main issue in the Quote is not the rest of the World but American Hypocrisy.

So feel free to involve any pedantic nit picking that may ensue, but remember that the quote was about Americans helping eachother with the surplus food stocks.

Finally, why do you pick on me lol. Everyone else says stupid shit, i am only a kid dammit, but the second i utter something above the level of the common monosyllabic slur i am pounced apon.

Do you crave a good friendly argument.

Please email me on piggarro99@hotmail.com, i, like you, love a well thought out argument, and would love to have a meeting on the net of some kind.

Please dont see this as hostile nox, i just want to argue, friendly (if you understand me)

The magority of people who starve in America have no one but themselves to blame. If they can't get a job at minimum wage, they should starve. Why should the government help those who won't help themselves?

Tomorrow walking home from the pub you hit your head, and dont get up. They take you to hospital and find your skull is fractured, you are a mind in a shell.

SO DONT FUCKING TELL ME THAT ITS SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST WHEN SOMEONE I KNEW IS NOW A FUCKING CABBAGE.

that could happen to you and i hope you would get all the help you needed. Survival of the fittest. Roosevelt was a fine model of a president in my eyes and was crippled with polio, the man pulled america into the 2nd world war and came out on top. If it were survival of the fittest he would have been dead long ago!

If you ready my post, you would see that I said "the magority" of people who starve, obviously exceptions should be made for people who don't have the mental or physical means to feed themselves ( due to uncontrollable circumstances like old age or mental illness).

I am not ready to strike. Our discussion, and I emphasize DISCUSSION shows the difference in our perceptions of the role of government in our daily lives. You appear to be far more socialistic than I. When I was a poor student, I too was more socialistic than I am today. Because of long hours and hard work I am far more comfortable than I was in my youth (the phrase, 'poor side of the tracks' is aprapo). I am no longer willing to share with my 'brethern' who chose to loaf around and be fun-dummies while I worked by behind off. Even today, I know people who refuse to get a job because they can get by on the 'dole'.

I am not picking on you ... I just don't agree with you (on this topic).

Canada should feed the world or do something. Its sad we dont have a decent army, so the least we can do is feed some people. I know we do a good job compared to other countrys feeding the world, but they should put more money into that or more money into military

Cuz we have been a peacefull country.
ANd if we have to feed others will not be dictated by our GVt, It will be the ppl who will choose if they want to send money over.

AS for The GVT taking care of poor ppl I think its a must. NO one wants to live in cities where bums will do anything to get $$$. Trust me it will be a biger fear then terrorism if mobs of hungry bums take over ur cities.

Actually, Canada and Australia has a pretty good record of humanitarian contributions per capita. No one really notices it though because the numbers sound too small and because Canadian and Australian medias aren't significant enough to make big world-wide stories about the recent donation that they made or whatnot, but statisticly speaking, these two countries have a history of contributing in times of crisis.

Not that I particulary like this idea though.

Most contributions - as altruistic as they may sound - have a deep motive behind them and once this motive is revealed, it just ends up being so fake.

It's pretty stupid that you are putting pressure on us to help others out, when we do it enough already.

Whenever most other countries are in crisis, they get help from us, but when we are in crisis, it's like "Fuck you Americans, you deserve is even though you helped us."

I think we Americans should stop this bullshit and refuse to help other countries with so much Anti-American sentiment. I'm not attempting to imply that America is perfect; as a matter of fact, U.S. policy needs some changes.

However, I'll stand by my point that America is often times too fucking nice.

I totally agree.

With some exceptions, it's mostly a person's own fault if this country if they starve, or don't have what they want. Life in America has been free (for the most part, though some things are changing) for approximately 228 years. If you are so stupid to be in this country and not take advantage of oppurtunity, it is your own fault.

As for survival of the fittest, that's the way the world works. Life isn't fair - get over it.

I was talking more along the lines of the United States as the Rich country, and an Ethopia as a poor country.

You wouldn't be saying that if you lived there, you selfish glut.

We can't use the world median as a moral standard to aspire to! We have to do better than that... why? Because otherwise the world becomes a worse place to live in... achieving the status quo on our planet currently includes widening the gap between rich and poor. So in fact we should do more according to our resources - can't anyone understand that entering the top 10% demograph of the entire world's population through no action on our part apart from being born (like anyone CHOOSES the birth canal they pop out of) qualifies us as being EXTREMELY priviledged. Why do we feel we have somehow EARNED this position, and that others do not DESERVE our goodwill and charity?

Do so much so that if everyone else were to do the same (according to their means) the world would be a better place.

And if you're not doing this then you're simply part of the problem...

I think every country should mind it's own business and resolve their needs and wants with fair trade (as opposed to international organization enforcement of so-called "free" trade, which trumps the right of sovereign nations to make their own laws).

No country has the obligation to feed another (honestly, it's unfair to the taxpayers of that country for the government to do so), and no country should have to worry about a coup or military takeover if they don't sell their own resources cheap enough.

The world needs both a little more respect of the sovereign rights of nations and a little less busybody "do-gooders" who think that giving millions of taxpayer money to an African despot is going to help anything. I'm sick of "internationalism" and "globalism".
