Politics: Left, Right, and Center National, state, regional, and local politics. Who's doing what to whom, and what you can do about it. How-to-get-action messages are encouraged. "How the government fucked up my life" stories are encouraged. Sharing new methods for cheating on taxes is encouraged. Sample "letters to congresscritters" are encouraged. Apathy and "I can't do anything" posts are discouraged. Left, right, centrist, or any other form of political-economic systems are all up for discussion. Be prepared to defend yourself, or at least have a good line of bullshit ready. Extensive quoting of economists and philosophers is frowned upon. We want to hear what YOU have to say, not what some constipated, impotent, dead guy dreamt up while suffering from the DT's over a hundred years ago thought.

Default Bush calls off trip to Africa

Bush calls off trip to Africa: Why?

I was wrong about a November invasion. I move the timetable to January.

Speaking of invasion, a senior Brit 'announced' that our plan for invasion of Iraq includes a sea invasion. This I doubt seriously. Why?

A. A WW2 seabourne assault is too costly in terms of ground troops.

B. We don't need to do this. Anyone else remember, 'The road to Basra'?

C. Putting out this information gives Saddam something else to defend ... thereby spreading Saddams forces thinner.

I think we can expect myriad stories like this between now and the initiation of military action. Reason, Saddam has already proven his reliance on Western media for intel.

I dont think the American soldiers would dare to go face to face against the Iraqi army in a sea or ground invasion.

Scenerio:

-US planes shooting at Iraq for 3-6 days
-Iraqi army,weapons,utlities is dead/finished
-US army walk in and claim victory on the 7-14 day
-US Media inventes the best lies & tells it

I think he canceled his trip to Africa because he has an excuse. Think about it. Would YOU want to visit Africa?

A seaborne invasion would be quite a spectacular feat considering that Iraq has no land borders (he isn't occupying Kuwait remember). A January invasion is far to early considering the U.S plans to only have about 50k troops in the area by January. I would say mid-February as the earliest possible time, although an air campaign could easily begin earlier.

Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't bush only postpone the trip to Africa until sometime in 2003?

Yes, and a subsequent posponement is easily accomplished especially if a country is involved in fighting.

Iraq has about a 50 mile shoreline on the Persian Gulf. Check it out: http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/cia02/iraq_sm02.gif

And for those of you that are too young to remember the last time we blasted the shit out of Saddamland: The war will begin the same way, Wild Weasels coming in at 50 feet, shoving AAMRAM's up the ass of anything that even smells like a radar site. High drag bombs pock marking every runway, highway, two-lane blacktop, dirt road or goat path. 2,000 pound Paveway bombs, satellite guided munitions, laser guided munitions, wreck-your-day Daisycutters, B-52 airstrikes with WWII surplus "dumb" bombs, the rain of steel will go on even after S-2/G-2 hears the Iraqis begging like gutless punk bitches on the radio for it to stop.

Then, after a month or 6 weeks, someone will give the order to send in the troops. Like the last time there will be thousands of Iraqis climbing over their brethren pissing their pants for the chance to surrender after hiding like scared little girls anyplace they can park their asses. Want to buy an Iraqi rifle? Only been dropped once.

Then I wouldn't be surprised to hear the Dubya go the way of his no-balls father and stop the whole thing, blabbing something about how "we don't want to kick a dog when he is down." Then in another 10 years we can pay to do the whole damn thing again.

Like father, like son.

Well, for those going in that have never been there, I have to say one thing.

Check for mines BEHIND the Iraqi trenches

Just because he's saying I luff Ameereeca!! as he's coming towards you doesn't mean he's surrendering.

When you destroy their tanks, stay well clear, those turrets can land some distance away.

Last but not least: Never let your Lt. call for naval gunfire, least of all if the NG platform in question carries 9 16 inch guns. Not much of a worry now though
