| Politics: Left, Right, and Center National, state, regional, and local politics. Who's doing what to whom, and what you can do about it. How-to-get-action messages are encouraged. "How the government fucked up my life" stories are encouraged. Sharing new methods for cheating on taxes is encouraged. Sample "letters to congresscritters" are encouraged. Apathy and "I can't do anything" posts are discouraged. Left, right, centrist, or any other form of political-economic systems are all up for discussion. Be prepared to defend yourself, or at least have a good line of bullshit ready. Extensive quoting of economists and philosophers is frowned upon. We want to hear what YOU have to say, not what some constipated, impotent, dead guy dreamt up while suffering from the DT's over a hundred years ago thought. |

Scud Siezure
I doubt those missles were intended for Yemen. They're probably just trying to freeload.
I think Spain should be allowed to keep the missles, since it was a Spanish frigate that siezed the missles, and the ship was by international law a pirate ship.

Re: Scud Siezure
Okay, speculation time. Who was gonna get those missiles? My first, knee-jerk reaction is to say Iraq, but that doesn't seem terribly likely to me. The Gulf is jammed full of American vessels, and I doubt they'd try and run the entire battlegroup. (or maybe there's more than one there... I forget...) Saudi Arabia is also crawling with American troops, not to mention the Saudi government, so taking them overland from Aden would be impossible. So I think Iraq's out. Which brings us back to our original question, who was gonna get those missiles?

Re: Scud Siezure
Which begs the next question, why does Yemen want Scuds? Seems a wee bit odd to me, and it's not like Yemen is just rolling in cash, certainly not to the point where they can buy peripheral goodies like SRBM's (IRBM's? I forget).

Re: Scud Siezure
The Yemeni's need to protect themselves from the potential onslaught from the north by the Saudi's. Remember, Yemen is the world's singular source of native Yemeni's. If Saudi Arabia were to control Yemen, then they (the Saudi's) would be in complete control and corner the world market of exportable Yemeni's.

Re: Scud Siezure
Nox, what're you on about?
If there was even a slight chance they were for Iraq, the US wouldn't say there is no chance.
I heard they were for the Horn of Afric? Where one of the groups from the Kenya bombings is from...

Re: Scud Siezure
I think Spain did not get those missiles is because they were headed for a legitimate country and for a pro U.S. country (Yemen). It is not like they are going to Al Qaeda, but since it is Yemen there is a chance that they could fall into the wrong hands.
Lets say those Missiles are headed for lets say Iran I bet you that the U.S. would have that ship stopped and the Spanish would have some Scuds right now.

I assume there are 'rules' somewhere. Who enforces them? The UN? The World Court?
Pardon me while I laugh.
