Politics: Left, Right, and Center National, state, regional, and local politics. Who's doing what to whom, and what you can do about it. How-to-get-action messages are encouraged. "How the government fucked up my life" stories are encouraged. Sharing new methods for cheating on taxes is encouraged. Sample "letters to congresscritters" are encouraged. Apathy and "I can't do anything" posts are discouraged. Left, right, centrist, or any other form of political-economic systems are all up for discussion. Be prepared to defend yourself, or at least have a good line of bullshit ready. Extensive quoting of economists and philosophers is frowned upon. Default And the dice are tossed....

Well, he did it. Saddam came out and said he didn't have any WOMD, he even put it in writing. He can't come back in a few days and say "I forgot all about those."

As we speak there are about a hundred arabic speaking people that work for various federal offices pouring over the paperwork and they are all looking for the one thing Dubya can show to the people on the evening news that proves Saddam has lied, because there isn't a snowballs chance in hell that he told the truth.

The inspectors will find something, that one is a given, because you can't bury something deep enough anymore, and the fact that there have probably been a dozen satellites going over Iraq for the past year or two, watching everything.

So Dubya will have his proof, of weapons when they find them, of Saddam lying in writing when they find them, and he will take action because the economy is bad and he wants to be re-elected in a little less than two years, and if he cleans up the mess his father made of the whole situation he will figure he is owed another four years.

I'm wondering who the "G" is going to label as the new booger-man when all is said and done, you can milk this Saddam thing only so long. Arafat? Nobody listens to him anymore except the more uneducated of his own people. Castro? Same thing. Osama? He won't be showing his face anyplace where the sun shines as long as he wants to breathe. So who does that leave? Who is going to be the new despot of the world?

My money is on Dubya.

Yeah!

John Poindexter, Coup de Etat!

Anyway, we probably won't find any WOMD. The labs are all in trucks that are kept on desert roads.

Winning a war in Iraq when the economy is bad doesn't help a Bush get reelected...witness Herbert Walker '92.

It's the economy, stupid!

"Alea jacta est, so said the great Caesar..." And it wasn't in English then either. Showing off your fucking private school education and how you know a pointless language instead of having a personality. Does it help you meet girls? Twat girls maybe.

Has it not occured to you how ridiculous you sound? "The labs are all in trucks that are kept on desert roads."
Saddam Hussein aka Blofeld. What a stupid notion! The reason you will not find any weapons is because they aren't there. SOme fucking stupid Americans can't handle that. It's like saying the proof that the Loch Ness Monster does exist is because he lives in a different Loch... or something.

I think Reagan also said "The Russian language doesn't even have a word for freedom" (Svoboda is Russian for freedom)

My favorite Regan quote:

"Governments view of the economy can be summed up in a few short phrases: if it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it."

favorite regan quote: "who are you people and where is my pudding"

about Iraq the saber rattling has arleady acomplished its goal all thats left now is follow through. the goal of the talk of war was to bring Iraq back to the terms of its surrender, this goal has been accomplished further talk of war is to keep Iraw to terms and disguise the ruse.

also dubya the elder lost on the economy becasue the people didn't feel that he was receptive to their plight. proforma concern and ongoing war coupled with the democrats inability to muster any one with the charisma of a jimmy cata guarentees a republican presidential victory baring act of god or asteroid collision.

Yes, the economy hurt George H. Bush, however, H. Ross Perot was the real problem. Don't forget that Billy Bubba's 'mandate' was 43% (same as Adolph Hitler).

That would be the wise at this point, but who's to say that he won't attempt to seize the oil fields back from the Russians? His administration has been preoccupied with 9-11, and he is probably now overdue on his presidency's mortgage.

Or, just to consolidate power in the region. All of Iraq's neighbors are US allies (more or less).

It doesn't matter. I'm sure we'll bring some from home, just in case.

I disagree Alan. The weak ones will seek alliances with our enemies in half the cases. Administrating a single docile subject would be far more profitable. The arms industry would be another story though.

And the oil business is not suited for wartime operations. Look at the lost revenue following Iraq's incursion into Kuwait. Red Adair probably made several fortunes, but the producers took a huge hit.

Mine was a general observation as opposed to any specific from today.

I still contend that should an Iraq invasion occur, that invasion will trigger a revolution in Iran.

It seems like just yesterday that some hard line stick wielders ran up against some pro-reform students in Iran. End result was stick wielders 1, unarmed students 0.

Iran, like a few other arab countries, is a comparatively young country (average age of the population wise). While the actual power is in the hands of geezers who still think a camel is a good way to get around, the up and coming fairly well educated populace is already asking "why?"

The same thing will happen there that has already happened in so many other places, take Russia for instance. The old hard line in command, the smart, young and restless are on their way up and want to know why they are still living in the dark ages. They have been to other countries, seen the way others live, and want to know why they can't live just as good in their own country. Then the steamroller of change gets fired up and you either get run over or you figure out a way of jumping on and rebuilding on the flat aftermath.

You think you would be happy living under the way things work in Iran, Iraq, Lybia, North Korea, or any of the other places that oppress the people so that some fat ass can keep his office? I know, some of them don't know another way to live, its been that way since their great-grandfathers time. But some of them have seen the way the rest of the world lives, and they will talk.

That's true in a general sense, but the Khomeini revolution had wide support amongst Iran's youth at the time.

Regarding your topic starter: You're betting that the gov't will choose it's own leader as the new boogie man?
___

Nox, A Hussein defeat might trigger the next revolution in Iran, but that's a different dynamic at work. I still say that Iran is a US ally - in matters regarding Iraq.

I was wondering who the next boogie man to get labeled in one way or another as such.

I asked who everyone thought the new boogie man would be.

Then I said I would bet that Dubya would be the new boogie man, that was a little hypothetical, it really meant that Dubya would be labeled the new boogie man by the world, not by the people he gives jobs to.

Sorry, didn't mean to throw anyone a curve.

Or vica versa with an attack on Iran(which is probably the best way to get Saddam out of power).

Global, The US presidency has been a boogie man for most of the third world, for a long time. So, Bush was a BM, as soon as they got him sworn in. The western world has it's own boogie man.
