Politics: Left, Right, and Center National, state, regional, and local politics. Who's doing what to whom, and what you can do about it. How-to-get-action messages are encouraged. "How the government fucked up my life" stories are encouraged. Sharing new methods for cheating on taxes is encouraged. Sample "letters to congresscritters" are encouraged. Apathy and "I can't do anything" posts are discouraged. Left, right, centrist, or any other form of political-economic systems are all up for discussion. Be prepared to defend yourself, or at least have a good line of bullshit ready. Extensive quoting of economists and philosophers is frowned upon. We want to hear what YOU have to say, not what some constipated, impotent, dead guy dreamt up while suffering from the DT's over a hundred years ago thought.

Default Where are the Aussie critics now?

There were plenty of the Aussie critics of the US policy of going after UBL, AQ, and terrorists in general.

Now, as a result of Bali, the Aussie's want the UN Charter changed to "allow nations to strike pre-emptively against terrorists planning to attack them".

My, my, my. Look what happens when you are on the receiving end of terrorism instead of just watching a bunch of 'Yanks' who "deserved it".

I hate it that Oz was on the receiving end of an attack, just as much as I hate it that the 'undeserving' US was. But you bunch of moralistic hypocrites are now showing your true colors...and by the way, I agree with the proposal. I just wonder what those same Aussie's would have said if the US had made that particular proposal first?

A few weeks ago after the Bali attack you posted that the Aussies have now changed their tone since they're the victims of terrorism.

Maybe you're gloating that you're prediction has come true, which it is, but your trend is seeming kind of repetetive.

Johnny Howard and the current Australian leaders think of themselves as the police of the region, something of an America of the South-East Asian area.

eg.
Going gung-ho into East Timor (albeit far, far too late)
Repeatedly criticising other countries in the region and sticking its nose into their politics and internal affairs.
etc.

As far as I'm aware, most everyday Australians really could not be bothered attacking somebody on foreign soil.

Australian political leaders get nowhere near the amount of support or respect that American ones do.

OZ do indeed think they are the US of south east asia, and OZ is a HUGE (i emphisize huge) suck up of the US. They talk BS but they can't do anything by themselves, we will just have to put up with their arrogance.

BTW: one australian party leader has suggested that muslim women be banned from wearing their traditional head scarfs.... SAD

yes his name is fred nile and he is the leader of the christian democratic party.

The cdp hold no federal seats and fred nile has a seat in the new south wales state in either the upper or lower house.

His statement was immediately denounced by nearly everybody. Howard denounced it the day after because when it was brought to his attention on talk back radio, he had no idea of what was really said.

The CDP is the equivalent of tv evangelism in political form.

so my question is, what does this have to do with the commonwealth government?

Also, if you watched the tv show in which Howard made the comment (it was either sunday or meet the press i think), you would understand that he made a very specific comment that had no comparison with Bush's cowboy way of getting down to business. The news doesnt say that in a 10 second bulletin.

Nox, what the fuck are you talking about? Because what 1 or 2 australians made a few comments here, the entire country is hypocritical? And besides I dare say the critics would be critical of this australian move as well.

I am talking about precisely this and the two posts above.

I want to hear comments from Oz about this. I heard plenty about the US, now I want to hear about Oz.

Thank you for your reply.

A woman was ejected from her seat in the Turkish parliment because she wore one. Just food for thought.
