Politics: Left, Right, and Center National, state, regional, and local politics. Who's doing what to whom, and what you can do about it. How-to-get-action messages are encouraged. "How the government fucked up my life" stories are encouraged. Sharing new methods for cheating on taxes is encouraged. Sample "letters to congresscritters" are encouraged. Apathy and "I can't do anything" posts are discouraged. Left, right, centrist, or any other form of political-economic systems are all up for discussion. Be prepared to defend yourself, or at least have a good line of bullshit ready. Extensive quoting of economists and philosophers is frowned upon. We want to hear what YOU have to say, not what some constipated, impotent, dead guy dreamt up while suffering from the DT's over a hundred years ago thought.

Default democrats...republicans

If I remember correctly, there was discussion in some other topic a while ago. I really cant remember who were arguing, but they said that democrats and republicans suck. I do not belong to either of those parties. Anyways, why DO democrats and republicans suck? I just wanna know that and why communism doesn't work.

I think Jesse Ventura said it best when he said we have one more choice for a political party then what the soviets did.

That is why I dislike them both.

What does the topic have to do with the fallacies of communism?

Anyway, I'd prefer third party, but a vote for a third party is a vote thrown away, in my opinion.

This topic has to do with communism because I started this topic... Really, I just wanted to know for one of my World Government classes about communism. There are many reasons why Communism doesnt work, I just wanted to know what other people had to say.

Communism does not work for so many reasons that it would be almost impossible to list them all here.

Communism is centralized planning. This is where the government determines the use of the factors of production and what to produce. Given a cursury glance, this system would appear to limit waste and increase efficiency as production is not wasted on certain prodcuts: novelty items, 80 brands of peanut butter, etc. The main problem with centralized planning is that areas remotley located from the central office tend to have their demands ignored or misunderstood as a remote, almost foreign, body is trying to determine and meet their needs. In the instance of Russia, how is Moscow supposed to know what is going on in the opposite side of the empire? The other main problem with centralized planning is that it is static and not reactive enough. Production was set for many years into the futures so if there was an unforseen event, like an empidemic of dysentery, that depleted the stock of toilet paper, perople were screwed until the next supply cycle came and toilet paper was reproduced. There were constant shortages of some goods while others piled up and were left to rot. There is not accountability in Communism as if someone makes a bad choice, they always get more funds from the government while in Capitalism, they become bankrupt and lose their shirt. Centralized planning while looking good was horribly inefficiant as the market can infinitely determine demand and supply better than a committee.

Communism allowed no economic freedom. This meant that there was no incentive to work hard as all one had to do was show up and meet the quota and they got their ration. Why work harder? You get no benefits from doing so. Entreperneurs are what fuel the economy and there were none in Communism. It is self interest that makes capitalism work and communism fail. No competiton among producers allowed inferior and inefficient products to be produced. No incentive to improve at all and it started to stagnate.

Stalin was also a paranoid asshole and he killed everyone who got in his way. While not true communism, it showed how the theory was applied to reality. Communism tends to be represive and for lack of a better word, shitty.

If you truly want to understand more, I suggest that you build a coneptual basis in micro and macro economics. If you already have that basis, either read books by Ayn Rand or Milton Friedman for more information.

What Jesse meant that in China and the soviet union, there was only one political party.

In america, we have one more choice then them in choosing a maijor political party.

We are one party closer to a one party system and a one party system is not good.
Or our system behaves like a one party system except we have two parties.
