Politics: Left, Right, and Center National, state, regional, and local politics. Who's doing what to whom, and what you can do about it. How-to-get-action messages are encouraged. "How the government fucked up my life" stories are encouraged. Sharing new methods for cheating on taxes is encouraged. Sample "letters to congresscritters" are encouraged. Apathy and "I can't do anything" posts are discouraged. Left, right, centrist, or any other form of political-economic systems are all up for discussion. Be prepared to defend yourself, or at least have a good line of bullshit ready. Extensive quoting of economists and philosophers is frowned upon. We want to hear what YOU have to say, not what some constipated, impotent, dead guy dreamt up while suffering from the DT's over a hundred years ago thought.

Default Let' Speculate

Al Gore won the Presidency. 9/11 did occur.

What would be happening today?

let's see...
There would be several economic sanctions on Afganistan...
Massive cuts in the millitary and environmental concerns would force the marines to use ammunition based on corn...
The only attack on Iraq planned would be to send Tipper gore over there for a few weeks...
And Gore may have frowned after the second plane hit the WTC, the most facial expression ever seen by that man EVER.

Gore's ratings would plummett after 9-11, seeing how indesicive he would be. We would just be sending troops over to Afghanistan, after reciving approval from the U.N., but we would only be sending troops from Turkey, Egypt, and Syria. The economy would be in shambles (DOW, 5000-6000, NASDAQ<1000). We would be the laughing stock of the world.

As a Swedish citizen I obviously know too little about Al Gore to have actual reason, pr even right, to join in on this.

But I guess that Gore would have kept some of Clintons advisors etc. And I remember what happened when that administration tried to deal with the terrorist bomb attacks on a couple of US targets abroad.

They were in such a hurry (if thats the right word for it) that they ended up taking out one hospital and one medical drugs factory, and no terrorist target what so ever. Having realised their mistake (to put it mildly) they seemingly withdrew from trying to deal with the issue further...

Bush Jr is often accused of having a "cowboy mentality" and to be "eager for war", and similar things. But compared to the above...

Nuff said...

Who's to say that 9/11 would have gone down under a Gore presidency?

I think they would have had some kind of military response, maybe something on the order or 50% - 80%. The extension of action into Iraq would not occur, it wouldn't be extended to an increased WOD, civil rights wouldn't be in as much jeopardy (no Ashcroft), and there would be sexual scandal involving the Gore family pet.

I could be completely wrong about this, but didn't the economy actually rise while Clinton was president?
Even if it were Clinton's fault, Isn't Bush president now? wouldn't that be his job? hasn't he been president for nearly 2 years?

There are ways to boost an economy in the short run that are quite detrimental in the long run.

I think Gore would've been forced to resigned, or murdered on the floor of the Senate. A civil war would break out, and Afghanistan would be nuked.

How come you aren't posting as much as you did in the past Nox?

For my response in a nutshell I believe it would be the same with a little less harsh tone on it. You know those leftists

Hell fuckin yes.

If those things had happened, Gore probably would've initialized a "Give An Arab a Hug Day" to show them we beared the ones in our country no ill will. He would then start to try and pump out even more privacy infringing bills than were passed after the attacks. People don't stop and think before they throw their freedom away. As long as people feel safe, they don't care what happens.

I wasn't aware that I had let up. However, fear not, I am still not afraid to voice my opinion.

We have picked up some new blood that give this forum some good thoughts...makes me happy.

The economic slump started about 5 months before clinton left office.
Yes, the economy went up with the clinton admin, but not because of clinton.

ok, thats fine, but what I still don't understand is how Bush is justifying sitting around and complaining about Clinton, when he should be fixing things. I guess he is starting a war, that might help the economy.

Some say that Bush's puppeteers orchestrated a slow-down, in order to breed discontent with the status quo. Personally, I'm skeptical, but it's not too far-fetched. Lay off a few thousand here; delay posting some earnings there; etc.

he will only hit Irak not change the regime
he will support israel (a constant of american politics)
all the other will be the same

you know the difference between you and morocco
morocco is a dictator country where votes are not really serious and the same king rules us for years
and you you are a country where the president changes but the same policy continues as if you are governed by a shadow
ghost gov !!!!!

It would probably not have been any different then what's happening now. Massive bombing campaigns against Afganistan, the overthrow of the Taliban, the detainment of terror suspects at Guantanamo Bay.

He wouldn't rush the War on Iraq the way Bush is though, but even in that area, he'd probably believe that Sadam Hussein must be disarmed. I doubt he'd try to pass the congression bill that was recently passed giving Bush absolute authority to go to war, but still, things wouldn't be that different.

Al Gore is a damn idiot. Our country would fall the fuck apart. We would have been hit by terrorists about ten more times.

Better yet, Hillary Clinton is president. Civil war breaks out. The Hillary's vs. Everyone. Hillary Clinton, commander in chief of the armed services, My God, this country would tear itself apart.

lol. If the attacks were masterminded by anyone in contact with Bush they mingth not have happened. but i doubt that.
no matter wut 9\11 would have came. How would he handle it? he would jump on his first enemy( bin ) and break his country apart. wich in this case is Sadia arabiA (sp)?
wich wouldn't make any sence because they trade oil with em. then he would attempt to fix other problems and get really confused about everything... and then he would go on to become the first american president to kill himself.

altrough its fun to immagine how things migth have ended up its a waiste of time. You minght wanna suggest te rigt things to do for bush. lol where to start?

Officially? What sort of committee do you run?

And how is Gore different then Bush? Their economic policies are almost exactly the same, they both adamantly support NAFTA, they both support the death penalty, and their views on abortion are basically the same. Gore believes in a woman's right to chose, but he wants to discourage and limit abortions. Bush believes in a child's right to life, but wants to discourage and limit abortions.

Bush wants to slightly raise the military budget, but only an insignificant amount. Gore wants to slightly cut it, but only an insignificant amount. They both wanna drill for oil in Alaska, they have the same intentions for the environment although Gore pretends to care more.

Democrats are on the inside what Republicans are the outside.
