I dont really know, i think china might when because they have more people and most likely have nukes. But then again since we are so anxious to bomb people really fast then i guess we would win. I think its more of a who would bust out the first nuke.

China's got nukes like shit, but they don't use them or threaten people. They don't bother people with their nukes. Its like the US: they gottem, we gottem and neither will use them first.

Noone else had them at that point.

And it was useful.

Otherwise many million American lives would have been lost invading Japan.

Although the bombing of Nagasaki probably wasn't neccessary.

Of course it wasnt necessary! The only cassualties in war should be the soldiers that were dumb enough to enlist (or the unlucky ones that were drafted). Those citizens never enlisted in the army. America shouldve nuked a military base or something, cause the soldiers knew that they might die, but nuking citizens was bullshit.

"Although the bombing of Nagasaki probably wasn't neccessary."

Probably just an extra dose of revenge. I think it was a good idea.

"...Although the bombing of Nagasaki probably wasn't neccessary."

I think they had some munitions depots there. I think it would've been hard to hit anything on the main island of Japan without hitting a good amount of casualties because the Japanese had tons of military structures in these cities populated by thousands of Japs.

I used to think a war with china was 5 years ago, which could be world War 3. It could be sooner than that now, but I'm not sure. With us having found out the North Koreans have nukes. They might really want to hold on to them, and China might back them. Commies-in-Arms so to speak. This would lead to a huge war. I'm read to go if need be. The biggest consideration would have to be what Russia did. If they decided to try to jump on the Commie bandwagon, tough to say if they would. Starting a democracy hasn't been easy for them, and turning to communism is a really easy but retarded solution. I don't think they would be stupid enough to do it, since that would pull the entire UN to take some action, IF the UN didn't keep being the big steaming pile of pussy they always are.

"US will have missile defence soon, china's weapon is mostly buy from other country too."

True, and the arguement that the chinkee's have more people isn't irrelevant. What does it matter how many peasants with pitchforks are running at you when your in a b-2 bomber?

I also read that China has been having large periods of drought and other assorted mudslides because of some indirect action of El Nino (damn that causes a lot doesn't it?). I'm not certain of the validity of this but I think I would add this in. It wouldn't be helpful to power a war machine...

I disagree. The Emporer visited both destroyed cities. Had there been only one, it is conceivable that he would have made the assessment that Hiroshima was a fluke. But on seeing the second (Nagasaki) he figured out that it was no fluke. What he didn't know is that we were out of bombs (for the moment) in theater. I would have been another 3-4 weeks before we could have dropped another.

I think what he meant by that was how the Jap's were already planning on surrendering. They were going to eventually, but the bomb drops sped it up, ultimatley saving more American lives.

What would happen if loudspeakers in China coordinated the nation into stamping their feet at the same time?

I've read that before. However, I'm not altogether convinced that there isn't wishful thinking there. Yes, there was an anti-war sentiment in Japan (as there has been in any nation), but the Code of Bushido was so 'alive and well' (a la Kamikazi) that there would not have been peace without the direct involvement of Emperor Hirohito. And don't forget, Hirohito had a reason (Divinity of the ruler) to want to continue the 'status quo".

They started proceedings for surrender after Hiroshima. As they obviously would.

And at that point ending the war a few weeks early would've had little affect on American casualties.

First of all, I think the bombing of N could have been averted should the US have made clear that the next target was Tokyo, and that ANY millitary strike made by ANY Japanise commander would result in said bombing. Japan would have folded within a week.
Secondly, China currently has only 20 neuclear devices, and the US has 6 foolproof hit-and-destroy missle defense missles. If a sneak attack were used by us to destroy the remaining 14 (entirely possible), we would win for sure.
Plus, the US is building more neuclear defensive devices very rapidly, and as much as the chinese think they could, they cannot build offensive missles as fast as we could build missles to combat them, and should such a war occor, there is no contest that the united states could kick China's ass.

Again we get into conjecture and speculation. 6 Aug 1945-Hiroshima; 9 Aug 1945-Nagasake(i). I don't think the issue will be satisfactorily resolved: One side believes the communication between the different echelons of command was destroyed; another side thinks the Japanese were negotiating with the Russians so they could 'save face' with the Americans; another side (we're up to a triangle now) thinks Hirohito vacillated; another side ... (and the sides go on).

Regardless of the why's and wherefore's, after Nagasake(i), it was over.

Exactly. Hirohito knew that as soon as it was over, bye-bye Empire.

DO you guys know that 70% of the US curreny is outside of America? China herself poccess a huge amount of US currency and the Chinese government is collecting more of it. If China goes to war with the US, not only her nukes will be launched, all of China's US currency will flood the foreign exchange market and thus create a huge increase of price level in the US, America's economy will be doomed.

If these 2 nations really went to war, i agree that America will win but it will cost like an arm and a leg for the US so isnt this more like a both lose situation?

Have you got a source for that information?
