Politics: Left, Right, and Center National, state, regional, and local politics. Who's doing what to whom, and what you can do about it. How-to-get-action messages are encouraged. "How the government fucked up my life" stories are encouraged. Sharing new methods for cheating on taxes is encouraged. Sample "letters to congresscritters" are encouraged. Apathy and "I can't do anything" posts are discouraged. Left, right, centrist, or any other form of political-economic systems are all up for discussion. Be prepared to defend yourself, or at least have a good line of bullshit ready. Extensive quoting of economists and philosophers is frowned upon. We want to hear what YOU have to say, not what some constipated, impotent, dead guy dreamt up while suffering from the DT's over a hundred years ago thought.

Default UN record

Israel holds the record for ignoring United Nations Security Council resolutions, a study by San Francisco University political science professor Steven Zunes has indicated.

On the eve of a possible U.S.-British assault on Iraq, Zunes decided to examine in depth one of the main arguments used by the Bush administration to justify changing the Baghdad regime - Iraq's deliberate refusal to implement UN Security Council resolutions.

According to Haaretz, he systematically went through all the states given instructions by the security council to find out how common a phenomenon it was. "Some of the countries are considered and are known to be friendly to the U.S.," he told the Hebrew daily.

"In the vast majority of cases I examined, the governments violating UN Security Council resolutions are countries that receive significant military, diplomatic and financial aid from the U.S."

Israel leads the list. Since 1968, Israel has violated 32 resolutions that included condemnation or criticism of the governments' policies and actions. Turkey is in second place, with 24 violations since 1974, and Morocco is third with 17 resolutions it ignored.

Now then you see. The UN is made up of all but 8 countries in the world (and they are pathetic insignificant countries anyway with no governments like the Pacific Islands) but the USA make up a absurdly huge portion of it. Rather than being in control of the world, the UN is under the control of the USA (to an extent). Because of this, the UN will overlook the violations because Israel, Turkey and Morocco represent relative allies of the USA and it is the US's best interests to keep them happy (They are all good strategic allies).

It is also useful to note that the UN itself are not pushing a war on Iraq at all. It is merely a US thing. The US are pushing the war on Iraq for many reasons which are not the ones which would be sanctioned by the UN (economic, strategic and imperial).

I totally agree.

The UN is a major example of a good idea gone bad.

Good point. I hadn't thought of it that way.

Still, it could be worse. It could be the League of Nations.

Iraq has broken the terms of its surrender, It can therefore be put to any terms that the united states government sees fit.

True Alan, but irrelevant when determining what to do, or how to do it. Righteousness (the non-religious sense in this context), clouds men's judgement.

A better course of action here, is assassination, which the UN will never condone.

An alternative action, would be an intermingling of oil investment with the Russian companies. It would serve the Russians, because it would be better than losing their entire investment, and it would serve the US by avoiding the risk of ratcheting up the religious war (jeopardizing oil investment in Indonesia, etc) ie. the Bali bombing yesterday.
