| Politics: Left, Right, and Center National, state, regional, and local politics. Who's doing what to whom, and what you can do about it. How-to-get-action messages are encouraged. "How the government fucked up my life" stories are encouraged. Sharing new methods for cheating on taxes is encouraged. Sample "letters to congresscritters" are encouraged. Apathy and "I can't do anything" posts are discouraged. Left, right, centrist, or any other form of political-economic systems are all up for discussion. Be prepared to defend yourself, or at least have a good line of bullshit ready. Extensive quoting of economists and philosophers is frowned upon. We want to hear what YOU have to say, not what some constipated, impotent, dead guy dreamt up while suffering from the DT's over a hundred years ago thought. |

moroccan legislative elections
just to change the usual anti bush posts i'm just saying that today we have parlementary elections according to our constitution the king will choose the next gov from the winning parties for the first time we are having real ellections with no falscifications voing boxes are made of glasses a group of american are observing votes well everything fine but i'm still boycoting election with my familly u will say why well simply because most of the power is still in the hand of king and economical lobbies so why loosing my time
i still think that moroccan king is taking direct orders from USA and FRANCE so that's why USA doesn't dare saying that morocco is a disguised dictature ship and still support our roten gov and the american election observers are in fact trying to impose the numbers of parliamentary chairs attributed to the Islamic Party in morocco ( AL Adala Wa tanmiya)=(justice and devlopement)

Prince, I will say the same thing to you that I say to the Americans who make the same or similar comments: Don't vote and you give up the right to complain about the government you get because you did nothing to try to change it. Prince, I don't think that we have agreed on anything political yet, but try to rethink this position. Don't let pride get in the way of common sense. For what it's worth. Nox

Re: moroccan legislative elections
On the other hand, if no-one adequately represents your views, and none of the leading parties seems significantly worse than the other (therefore no incentive to vot for the "lesser evil"), the prospect of voting isn't particularly enticing.

Re: moroccan legislative elections
Why should he vote when he's already stated that there is no point. Its obvious that the elections are there to make people happy, and regardles of which party Prince merchant chooses, the King will still retain the most power.

True. But I still disdain any form of voter apathy. Yes, I do understand his point but I do not feel that silence is golden when it comes to politics.

NOX : my familly did a lot for my country we have two political lost among my familly and things are better now and press is really free from 1997 press can freely criticise even the king the gov but i still find the elections useless since most of the power is under KING hand the king says he likes democracy but he says that a transition from dictature ship to democracy need many years and can't be immediate i don't see it like that he just have to give up some powers but if things get improved i'll vote futur will show sometimes nox boycott can scare a regime more than weapons be sure

Prince your boycotting the wrong thing. If you don't like the new leaders elected, you have only yourself to blame. And it does take time to transition from one type of government to the next. Unless you want a situation like in Russia, Slower is better. ANd boycotting voting won't scare a regime. they probably couldn't care less, as it's less votes to count and more of a chance the people the government supports, not the people, will get elected.

Re: moroccan legislative elections
Prince,
Joe is absolutely right. The boycott of an election scares no one. The only thing that scares is when people actually go to the election. Do not underestimate the power of the ballot. Yes, the King may hold power but he is also cognizant of the will of the people he governs.

So? He's not answerable to it. Especially since there has to be restrictions on who he can vote for.

Re: moroccan legislative elections
Regardless of scaring anyone, its obvious the King has HAD to set up the elections, and a no show by many people may show him that no one gives two shits about his pathetic attempts.
But on the other hand, you're right, the casting of a vote gives you more power than you think.

Re: moroccan legislative elections
NOX i'm serious boycot really scares the regime the regime is kinbd of dictature ship and every dictatorship neads legitimacy in morocco it's done by legislative ellections but the reall power always stays in the hand of the KING so when only 52% of moroccans voted i'm sure the king is in panic now because it means people are not interested and are seeking for alternatives to improve their life insteed on relying on a roten gov this alternative may be vilence or anything else or ignoring the gov and this is rally scary you must live it to know it sorry NOX until now morocco is not a democracy it's not north corea but it's not also sweden but i think we are going in the good paths yesterday the interior affairs minister annouced the results the socialist winned again and the same coalition still rules for the first time the islamists of DJP tripled their seats to 40 insteed of 14 before they are equal with the isticlal party and RNI and for the first time moroccan gov annouced all illegalities and punished all falcifiers this is all very positif but 60% of the power is under the king hand so i don't really care if i vote then i'm a hypocrite who help dictators tricking us with useless elections

Re: moroccan legislative elections
boycotting elections is one way of keeping revolutionary furver alive in spite of consolations made by the other side. Ireland refused to send its representitives to parliment in order to keep the revolutionary spirit strong which allowed the 1921 uprising.
