Politics: Left, Right, and Center National, state, regional, and local politics. Who's doing what to whom, and what you can do about it. How-to-get-action messages are encouraged. "How the government fucked up my life" stories are encouraged. Sharing new methods for cheating on taxes is encouraged. Sample "letters to congresscritters" are encouraged. Apathy and "I can't do anything" posts are discouraged. Left, right, centrist, or any other form of political-economic systems are all up for discussion. Be prepared to defend yourself, or at least have a good line of bullshit ready. Extensive quoting of economists and philosophers is frowned upon. We want to hear what YOU have to say, not what some constipated, impotent, dead guy dreamt up while suffering from the DT's over a hundred years ago thought.

Default Chinese style fastrack.

quote:
TANGSHAN, China, Aug. 17

An Jianyes desk does not look like a war zone. An, who manages a seedy six-floor walk-up hotel in this northern Chinese city, keeps the place neat and his In-Out baskets clean. But the two phones sitting there tell a different story.
Over the past few weeks, workers from one of Chinas state-owned telecommunications behemoths, China Netcom, have twice severed the phone lines of China Railcom, a plucky rival that is also state-owned, to keep it out of Ans hotel. Government regulators, allegedly in cahoots with Netcom, clipped little Railcoms wires a third time.
Other government departments also pressured An to keep China Netcom over Railcom, threatening to cut off his water and electricity. The local press has not touched the story because China Netcom is a major advertiser, local sources said. Railcom, for its part, offered to pay for mobile phones for hotel staffers for a month if they signed up.
So An settled on a compromise two phones on his desk, one black, one red, and a line from each phone company leading into his hotel.
One is an old friend and one is a new one, he said somewhat sheepishly. Competition is good, but not like this. - WashingtonPost.com Full story

What a circus this is. The idea was probably stolen from some top-secret instruction manual, while visiting the Clinton White House... or maybe just traded for a few thai stick (a last-minute, and casually negotiated concession to a fellow business man.)

I had to chuckle at the dude with two phones on his desk - undoubtedly, some ancient and wise eastern philosophy, led him to his decision as to how to deal with this new state-sponsored competition.

Factions in the party huh? ...how sad. I always thought; the one good thing about communism was that they had no commercials.

well china stopped being communist a while back, now they're just authoratarian.(sp?) the really scary thing is that all of thier corps are owned by party members. for some reason multi-nationals think that they will be able to exploit this 'new market' and make massive amounts of money. hah, china still has a centrally controled economy and will make foreign companies jump thru so many hoops they wont be able to make aa decent profit.
the most disturbing part about china is the fact that , despite the US military superiority, sunfire missiles not withstanding, china could bring the US to its knees in about a month simply by stopping all exports and blockading taiwan. this would devestate the US economy far worse than sept 11.

While the other companies are controlled by Military generals. Talk about "owned by the people" As for them cutting off trade with the west, it would also hurt them as badly as us. What are sunfire missiles?

The point was, that the economy is becoming de-centralized now. They're having an economic feudal flash-back, sinking into corruption. If they're willing to jail their countrymen in the spirit of competition, they sure has hell won't flinch before buying American. Since when is it important to run a government department with anything that resembles efficiency? let alone a profit, especially in a huge communist administration. The party bosses are takin bonuses that don't appear on the state's payroll records.

Perhaps they're a new generation of Chinese, that could give a shit about the party's IDEALS, but they inherited this machine that they use to run their business. Pull a lever here: a competitor goes to jail there.

All America really needs to do here, is bitch-slap the corruption out of them, and then they could march with us; to a global cheeze utopia.

sunfire missiles are able to take out our aircraft carriers. they fly close enough to the surface that we cant stop them. with out aircraft carriers the US armed forces are fairly useless.

and as for decentralization; it would take the chinese govt about 10 secong to re-nationalize all business in china if they thought it was good for them.

You mean the Sunburn missile?
http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/missile/row/moskit.htm

China doesn't have those missiles in it's inventory. It does have the jet that can carry them, the flanker, so they may be buying them over the next few years. It also has a clone of the SS-2 "Styx", which was used to sink an Israeli destroyer, and another missile based on the french Exocet, famous from it's use during the Falkland islands war.

Isreal is believed to have nukes, and have been known to collaborate with South Africa and Taiwan on several occasions. I didn't think Isreal had nukes until I read this,
