Politics: Left, Right, and Center National, state, regional, and local politics. Who's doing what to whom, and what you can do about it. How-to-get-action messages are encouraged. "How the government fucked up my life" stories are encouraged. Sharing new methods for cheating on taxes is encouraged. Sample "letters to congresscritters" are encouraged. Apathy and "I can't do anything" posts are discouraged. Left, right, centrist, or any other form of political-economic systems are all up for discussion. Be prepared to defend yourself, or at least have a good line of bullshit ready. Extensive quoting of economists and philosophers is frowned upon. We want to hear what YOU have to say, not what some constipated, impotent, dead guy dreamt up while suffering from the DT's over a hundred years ago thought.

Default Candidate speaks out against war on drugs

Source: Gainesville Sun
quote:

Gubernatorial candidate Bob Kunst says the government is wasting resources fighting drugs when it should be paying more attention to the war on terrorism.

"We've got to get our priorities together," he said Wednesday, speaking to a handful of people at the University of Florida Reitz Union as part of a Drug Education Week event sponsored by Students for Sensible Drug Policy.

He called the war on drugs a "lawyer's paradise," a big business that has accomplished nothing more than putting money into the pockets of lawyers and politicians, among others.

Kunst, a long-time political activist from Miami Beach running for the Democratic nomination, said 15 of the 19 terrorists involved in the Sept. 11 attacks "were in my back yard."

"Where were the police?" he said.

Kunst said he advocates the use of medical marijuana and suggests that the United States look at legalizing or decriminalizing the drug.

He admits to his own use of marijuana and said programs such as Drug, Abuse, Resistance, Education (DARE) should be aimed more toward drug responsibility.

"Marijuana has gotten me through some of my worst moments," he said.

Kunst said that Bill McBride and Janet Reno, also Democratic candidates for governor, are "keeping their mouths shut" about important topics and that the upcoming election "is an incredible opportunity to make social changes across the board." For more information, visit kunstforgov.com."

interesting? do you think that his political career is over, now that he's admitted to using pot like that? probably...

im not a large supporter of the 'war on terrorism' and feel that if it did take some heat away from the 'war on drugs' it would be one of the few positive outcomes of the war on terror.

check this dood out, if you live in florida, and can vote.

It's good to see a candidate supporting legalization, and openly admitting to have used the drug. I'll consider moving to Florida if this guy becomes governor, but I'll doubt he'll be able to nab the nomination of a major party.

Marion Barry of D.C. was caught and later admitted to smoking crack and he was
re-elected. He was just caught again with more crack but I think he's hangin in the towel this time.

I've never heard anything about Mayor Barry, but I don't think any politican should be doing drugs while in office.

Because it denegrates his ability to serve his people effectively.

But then again, you could say the same thing about any other worker, some even serving in fields that demand a much higher concetration and competance.

In fact, even the least demanding functions could be strongly affected if the employees were to do drugs while on duty. I know I wouldn't want the burger flippers at my local junk food restaurant to be stonned. No way am I waiting 2 extra minutes!

The people that work at burgerville aren't responsible for the actions of the free world. Just as one should not operate heavy equipment under the influence One should not make decisions with such wide ranging consequences while mentaly incapacitated even slightly. Take marijuana for instance, for two weeks to a month after use there is a very slight supression of alpha wave activity. That is not to say that that person cannot perform most tasks effectively, but an elected official is idealy burdened with the concept of duty to his constituatcy above all, and anything that interferes with that is to be frowned upon.

I'll bet that if you did bloodtests on every politician in the country, 8 out of 10 will test positive for drug use.

Alan, you're saying this as if the politicians were smart to begin with. Pffff... sitting in a parlament and flying on to meetings with other 'leaders' isn't any more demanding than your average job.

Alan, dont bother.

Are you stil trying to gain sympathy by desperatly trying to 'mock' me? LOL.

Figures.

Seriously though, why would anyone want to get high every single day?

Youre average job doesn't carry near so much weight and responsibility. If you fuck up at work someone just gets pickles on their whopper. If a person responsible for the defence and prosperity of the nation screws up its a bit more serious. Beyond that an elected official has an obligation to the people of the united states to be in clear capacities.

So, Alan, you believe that we should restrict the drug use only for people working in less important fields, whereas, our politicians - as well as all those employed in the more demanding jobs - should never touch those forbiden chemicals?

I'd rather have a politicain who had admitted to smoking an occasional joint that one who tries to conceal his alcoholism.

I don't want my surgeon puffing the magic dragon before I go under the scalpel. I wouldn't want a machine operator drunk on duty. The difference is is that an elected Official should be in a constant state of preparedness should the necessity for them to make important decisions arise quickly.

fuckoffanddie,

i'd rather have a president who admits a cocaine habit, than one who won't even admit to inhaling marijuana smoke.

Sounds fair.

But what about what they want?

I find it rather comical that someone like yourself, who has always spoken in favour of people's 'freedom', now denies them a basic right to intoxicate their body because they should pay more attention to their duty.

hp do you even know what i do for a living?

Nope. And frankly, i'm not particulary interested to know either, but for the sake of argument, i'll make a guess; it's something very dull and involves absolutly no contact with humans. Am I correct?

I'd rather have a president that smokes pot, drinks beer, and admits to having a past cocaine habit but actually gets practical things done for the majority of the people than a useless and sober figurehead for lobbyists.

Damn guys get real. Who gives a shit what the president does or has done recreationally if it doesn't harm anyone? The policies and government actions a president does are what affects us, not what stupid chemical he took 30 years ago or on his time off.

As if the president couldn't smoke pot and do his job the next day.

President: Man I was so wasted last night.

Co-Pres: Here you go.. your financial donars want you to sign these acts here and veto these ones here. And here is your prepared speech for tomorrow to look over.

President: I'm right on that.. is it naptime yet?

The presidents job Is every minute of every day, It is not nine to five. They control the military and the nuclear arsenal they should be ready to deal with any and all threats the moment they occur with their full capacities.

Besides Hp by running for public office they have made an agreement to put their wants behind the needs of the nation.
