| Politics: Left, Right, and Center National, state, regional, and local politics. Who's doing what to whom, and what you can do about it. How-to-get-action messages are encouraged. "How the government fucked up my life" stories are encouraged. Sharing new methods for cheating on taxes is encouraged. Sample "letters to congresscritters" are encouraged. Apathy and "I can't do anything" posts are discouraged. Left, right, centrist, or any other form of political-economic systems are all up for discussion. Be prepared to defend yourself, or at least have a good line of bullshit ready. Extensive quoting of economists and philosophers is frowned upon. We want to hear what YOU have to say, not what some constipated, impotent, dead guy dreamt up while suffering from the DT's over a hundred years ago thought. |

Political Protest or the Justification of Eating Garbage
I was thinking about a program I was watching on PBS. It was about food or something, but they had part in it where they followed this couple around. They were bums, transients, runaways, whatever. Anyway during the the first part of it you watched as they hit all their regular spots pulling food out of garbage cans, outside of small restaurants, various places.
Now choosing to live your life like that is all fine and dandy, but there was the part I thought was pretty stupid. The guy is sitting around with the rest of his fellow bums in a house that they are squatting in and then proceeds to tell how this way of life is in protest to capitalism. How by living like this it is their way of bucking the system by not participating in the capitalist circle of life.
What bullshit is this. If not for the excess that capitalism provides, they wouldn't have anything to live on in the first place, they are just the bottom feeders of the system. And I wonder if he thought this theory up before he was on the streets, or more likely in the third week of eating out of garbage cans, and living in his abandoned rundown shack shivering from the cold.
Get a job you lazy bastard.

Re: Political Protest or the Justification of Eating Garbage
if there happy with the way they live then let em be. but it is pointless protesting a system by showing the worst possible alternative. do they want people to follow thier lead or something? if you want to protest then use your right to assemble and actually bring attention to your purpose.

Re: Political Protest or the Justification of Eating Garbage
Its really a way of rejecting their fathers or whoever provided for them as children. They must have serious issues with ma and pop.
